@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop

Sorry for the late reply. That's great to hear! We have bought a hinge jig (last uploaded video) and found it pretty good and worth the money. I use gtv concealed hinges as I like the amount of adjustment they give and full overlay are the most common I use. You can also get half overlay and inset too.

Great video. Would you not save a lot of time using the Clamex P-14 connectors for fixing the sleeves and panels together? You won’t need to install biscuits, drill holes and add screws. The connectors can be pre installed back at the workshop, and you just need an Allen key to tighten them up. The Zeta P2 cutter is expensive, but you will recover the cost in the long term. I needed three custom wardrobes installed into the recessed in my walls. The cost and lead time were prohibitive. I drew up the designs for panels, edging, recesses etc and had cworkshop cut and deliver them to me. In less than an hour I cut the slots for the connectors and the access holes with the special tool. By the end of the morning all three wardrobes were fitted. The P-14 connectors made assembly quick. The hardest part the job was getting the panels to the first floor by myself. I didn’t realise how heavy they are. Your videos provided some useful tips. Thank you.

Lovely job, as always. Quick question regarding the doors...... did you use 18mm mdf with 3mm strips to create the shaker look like you've done in a previous video. If so do you ever have any issues with doors warping over time only reading comments from other videos ive watched people say it can cause problems although from what I gather they were using 12mm door with 6mm strips.
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop

Thank you 👍 I mainly use 12mm with 6mm strips now. I find the doors are lovely and light. I've never had a problem with warping. Once made I always keep them flat on my racks in the painting stage and always paint equally amount of coats on both sides. Doing this, ive never really had any problems

Thanks for the reply, can you tell me if you put veneer on the ends of the doors or is sanding painting adequate.
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop
3 жыл бұрын
No probs, I always fill the edges and sand them, but you can get iron on painteable tape to avoid filling and sanding. I would probably stay away from oak veneered edging only because the oil from the wood will probably bleed through the paint over time. Hi mate, just been watching your videos, and wondered, before spraying your top coats do you seal the the face of the MDF with anything? otherwise the MDF fibres lift when using water based paints, creating a bumpy finish, had this problem recently, noticed you said in one of your vids, you now prep your panels with 240 grit sandpaper then spray 2 top coats for your your finish, I tried this and still had the fibres come through? Used the same paint Johnstone’s acrylic eggshell and Graco sprayer gx21. Any thoughts? Cheers

Don't use cheap MDF. A good quality mrmdf. Medite. Or hidrofugo and don't use domestic paints. Try sayerlack primer and top coat. There are loads of other water based industrial coatings brands. I used to use the more domestic type of paints and found the durability isn't as good. Paintable edge band is brilliant for factory finish edges

Really nice job bud.. how did you scribe those cheeks to make them so tight.? Could you do a bud on that?
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I cut the height first by checking if there is a square corner on either the top or bottom. Its always easier when on is square or there is carpet covering the bottom of the cheek. If there is carpet at the bottom then I generally assume I can leave the bottom a square cut, then I measure from floor to ceiling to give me my scribe cut to the ceiling. With the height done, I put it in place and push it until it hits the wall. Then I look at the front edge and make it parallel with the carcass side and put a clamp on it. With that done, I measure the biggest gap at the back against the wall, and then get a spacer/packer to match that. Maybe add an extra mm or 2. Then run your spacer/packer along the cheek and the wall with a sharp pencil to draw the scribe line on the cheek. I tend to do my cuts with a plunge saw to give me a crisp cut but you could use a jigsaw if you know how to protect the surface etc. Hope that helps
