In the early and mid sixties Baby Washington was probably the premier solo female R&B singer. Her record label wasn't able to promote her properly. Her recordings have been sampled by many other artist. "Only those in Love" is one of her most soulful rendition. I do believe she is no longer with us, but her beautiful romantic music lives on. Thank You for post!

Baby Washington should have been a household name in music. I would be hard-pressed to name many singers who could bring so much emotion to their songs. I feel blessed to have grown up with these kinds of records, and they sound just as fresh today as they did all those decades again. Baby Washington, now in her seventies -- I hope she gets to read some of these comments and know how loved she is. And how her music still moves us.

Oh my goodness... I have been looking for this song from this atist for a long long time. I am so glad to have found it while searching youtube during my break at work. We had this record when I was a kid in pennsylvania back in the 60's, and we did'nt even know who the artist was singing it. I thought it was Dinah Washington all these years, and I was searching sites to find it. I want to thank the person who posted this! My search has come to a happy ending!

The era for our music was ending but we didn't know it then. Sure there were hippies in 65, and Dylan, The Byrds, Rolling Stones but we still had The Jive Five "I'm A Happy Man" and The Marvelows singing I Do and The "Lovers Concerto" Toys.........AND THIS! Right at the end of the days of DooWop and real RnR. Six months later the radio stations weren't ALLOWED to play songs like this, it all went Dylan and friends but in the summer 65 we had Only Those In Love and it was a hit. STILL A HIT HERE

Amen to that. There are some great singers out now, but most don't have the background or knowledge the singers had being brought up in the 40s, 50s and 60s. You're right about a good amount of them coming from church.. That's where a lot of singers found their passion for singing, and some of the greatest R&B groups got their starts as Gospel groups

Back in the (this) day, they -- soul sisters with soulful voices -- came straight out of the church choirs. They were well-studied and disciplined in gospel, blues, pop, rhythm-&-blues, rock-&-roll, etc. Can't say that these days about Janet, Mary-J, Beyoncé, Lauren, Erika-Blaba-Doo, etc. And when they performed live, they didn't need to reproduce a live on-stage video with 55 dancers either! They didn't just "sing"... they "SANG"!!! You go, Miss Baby-Dub.

Only Jerry and Harvey are left still carrying on the sounds and keeping it alive today.

But not in Philadelphia, where Harvey Holiday was always playing this on his Sunday night radio show on WDAS in the 70's and 80's; also a favorite of the Geator (Jerry Blavat); so no, it has NEVER been overlooked in my town; it is very well known by the close and enduring followers of Soul. In fact, I'd venture to say it may very well have more airplays then any other of her records here, even including That's How Heartaches Are Made.

Hadn't visited your channel in a while, PJ. It was a pleasant surprise to find this Baby Washington tune, which I haven't heard since I was in grade school. I was also surprised to find that the arranger was Bert Keyes (correct spelling), who co-wrote the Moments' "Love On A Two-Way Street" with Sylvia Robinson.
