I have a '99 model in yellow too. Love it. It is such a capable bike, no problem with keeping up with modern bikes of similar capacity, handles well and sounds fantastic. Took mine on track a few times and surprised a few modern bikers with its abilities. Just had to rebuild the front brake calipers due to them binding, not too big. a job and spares easily available. This is a keeper for me. Only regret I ever heard from VFR owners was selling it.

hiya i,ve just rebuilt a 1998 engine into a 1999 frame the engine had been sitting in my shed for 10 years so it was a rough build just to see if it would run it started after the third kick in the guts brilliant jumping up and down in the garden neighbours must have i,d won the lottery MOTed in may 2022 put 573 miles on it then sorned 1 dec and now its time change colour from red to blue and other maintenance work superb power and superb sound roll on the end of March 2023 put some more miles on it and watch out for those unpredictable tin can drivers stay safe and don't let anything surprise you

In the US, the yellow model is solely of the year 2000; although, emblazoned on its VIN ID label is 1999. I believe they were manufactured in 1999 and took a near year's journey to the states via the oceans and seas from Japan. This would be similar to manufacturing and receiving dates of, say, a Nissan 300ZX, 1984. Same thing, 1983.

Lovely bike! I have 1999 50 year anniversary model. I wish I could keep the bike forever, but sadly I'm not that mechanically experienced. I can do simple maintenance, like oil changes or changing brake discs, but afraid to touch the engine. Sadly spares are expensive and hard to get, as well as local mechanics doesn't know how to work on these. Most probably will replace it with DR650, but in my dreams VFR800 will stay as one of the best motorcycles.

Apart from the R and R mines been good 25000 miles. I bought the Haynes manual and do my own fluids plugs brakes. I know a mechanic if anything like fuel injection go wrong but tbh mines been great runner I try to run engine rverh week.

Still got my yellow one with 17000miles (!) and its 23 years old this year. Lots of good equipment incl a high quality Maxton shock. I keep thinking of selling as it is very rarely used but its the longest I have had a bike at 16 years ownership. In reality its probably a £2500 bike max.... think I will likely just keep it. That motor....... 😉 Had 6 in total including a VTec years ago. Modern bikes are fantastic but these VFRs are still terrific machines. No technology just pure biking and a virtually unbreakable unique motor 👍

Mr. GWA, I love my '98 VFR. I don't ever want to sell it. What tank bag do you have and the mount is connected to the fuel filler? Thanks for sharing this video. My other Honda is what you guys call a 'Pan-European' (2007 ST1300 in the USA). I do want a third bike, though. A dual sport. Maybe a Suzuki DR650. My YT channel name is the same on 'vfrdiscussion', 'vfrworld', and 'st-owner' forums.

They’re both amazing motorcycles. I own both. A 98 VFR and a 2003 XX. The XX is better for 2up and a much more thrilling motorcycle while being very civil and refined but the VFR does something that no other motorcycle I’ve ridden does. The sounds that come out of this motorcycle are like a symphony all coming together at redline. You couldn’t go wrong with either but the VFR has something more that isn’t apparent on a spec sheet.

For seller to find his replacement...this is the last year before vetec which kicks in @7000 rpm...I run it @ 4500...& YES the sound is a "whine" from a gear driven cam...have yet to soften the suspension that was set for the track...very hard on tire wear & my balls...lol
