Ruth Scott & Tom Small
Ruth Scott and Tom Small form this popular acoustic duo, based in Hull. After taking a break from writing and performing with their band Late Night Marauders, which was a huge success, they are embarking on a new project, drawing on influences from artists such as Tom Waits, Ray Charles and Bob Dylan. Sell-out gigs at the prestigious Hull Truck Theatre to over 450 people helped seal their popularity, and the duo have performed at several festivals. The duo has received commission work through the Hull Jazz Festival with Ruth researching and writing several original songs for this event. These songs were developed with the band and performed at a sell-out gig. The band has received regular airtime with Ruth participating in live interviews and performances. The band received fantastic reviews for their song writing, compositions, and performances. Additionally, Ruth has been involved in writing, recording, and performing for other artists in various projects. Ruth and Tom have recently rediscovered their love of writing, returning to the studio to record their first demo together, along with performing locally. Fans were eager for their turn, and Ruth’s lyrics tell relatable and thought-provoking stories, providing poetic imagery drenched in soul and warmth. Tom's acoustic guitar playing is beautifully subtle and complimentary, attuned to Ruth’s voice and the overall feel of the songs.
Also performing is Ruth Toynton, the Yorkshire-based singer-songwriter. Ruth has been part of the Hull music scene for almost 10 years in various ensembles and choirs. Ruth performed at Hull Jazz festival as part of Hull Freedom chorus and on Songs of Praise as part of G.Choir. Ruth started working with beatmakers to produce a sound with elements of old soul and jazz. This elegant electronic style is the blend of retro and contemporary that carries her bittersweet lyrics perfectly.
Headlining on is Deep Sea Daggers. Scarborough-based Deep Sea Daggers have just released their first track ‘Everything I Had’, produced and recorded at Beckview Studios. Deep Sea Daggers formed in Scarborough five years ago as a loud and live five-piece with influences ranging from Miles Kane and Arctic Monkeys to Frank Carter, Mysterines and Stone Roses.
