"You can buy brains but you can't buy drive, enthusiasm, and hard work." Great interview, JT! Love that Charlie made a list of things people didn't like about plumbers and did the opposite; hired the right people, offered a quality service, and treated his customers like family -- don't over complicated business.

Fantastic interview, JT and Charlie. I need to watch this several more times, so many gems. A few things that really stood out were “you can’t buy the will to succeed”, “if you ain’t gonna work, it ain’t gonna work for you”, “we all learn from somebody”. And of course Einstein wants to be a plumber. I’m a huge proponent of trade schools. I went to trade school after high school and worked many years before “buying brains”. It’s a great path to take.

Love the Legacy piece that he wants to get back into it and help younger folks. Throw in “we didn’t have it right”, that turning point, of being all in and growing into it. Quality and for LIFE. Payment on completion, love that. Learned that back in 1982 by a coach. Makes a huge difference. Love that he went from the tools to being the orchestrator, the Entrpreneur. Great interview Charlie and JT. Living the dream, keeps you young! Living the Legacy, the philanthropy, also keeps one young! Great testament to loving the Game of Business. Thanks!

In his awful book you'll read about his utter failings to protect his female apprentices in his workplace from sexual harassment and how he writes about it all in such a flippant way and how the PR stunt of having female engineers 'was all becoming uncomfortable’' for him. He continues to this day to not care one bit that writing about sexual harassment in this way is distressing for the person involved as he refuses to remove the chapter despite being asked MANY times. Don't be fooled by that the fact that he gives money to charity - that does not make someone a good person.
