Hello Flower Friends! I'm Ellen. I'm a florist, newsletter writer and host of FlowerMore (flowermore.mn.co/) an online community of flower nerds who dig deep into the endlessly fascinating world of flowers!
In this video I make a floral head crown. They are easy and cute but take a while to make because of the many small flower bunches needed. A floral head crown is basically a dozen boutonnieres layered onto a wire. I use both fresh and dried flowers and use a pattern for the design.
Head crowns do not take much materials. I use flocked wire which is similar to a pipe cleaner. It has a fuzzy, textured coating that helps to keep the flower bunches in place. I also use a light gage wire to adhere my flower bunches to the flock wire.
For my flower bunches I use fresh rosemary, a small-leafed eucalyptus and lisianthus as my focal flower. For dried flowers I use German and white status, ammobium, and gomphrena. To fill in any holes at the end, I use dried strawflower .
The technique is simple. It does take a long time. It can be a fun project for amateur florists. As a production florist, these can be a hassle and the margin is usually low. Customers are typically not willing to pay the amount it costs me for the time and materials to make these. I usually only sell these to wedding customers. They are cute though.
