I’d like to remind everyone, it’s okay if you can’t foster at this exact moment! Sometimes things come up. Sometimes it’s just not the right moment to take care of a kid. You can still help out though! You can donate, volunteer, and speak up for foster kids.

Hi! I’m interested in being a foster parent. I live in Cape Coral FL, I have three daughters and three grandchildren under the age of 6 years old. I am 58 and my husband 62 years old. Where should I go for information here in Cape Coral. Thank you 🙏 10:11

I had a recruiter come to my home two weeks ago for a prescreening. And today I dropped off my application to move forward. I’m nervous and so excited! In general, fear comes from a place of not having a full understanding of what to expect, how the process works, how I can best prepare etc. so, I’m incredibly grateful for your sharing and content! Knowledge feels powerful. I have been drawn to do this for many many years and I have so much to offer. I would be honored to provide a moment of peace amongst a child’s chaos. Thank you 🙏🏼

I used to be a foster kid and lived in a group home before my family of four was adopted. Overcoming my childhood trauma has allowed me to build a wonderful life for myself. Now, I want to give back by becoming a foster parent and sharing the love I received with someone else.

When I woke up today, I was thinking a lot about foster care and adoption. Even started googling requirements for my state… I can hardly believe that this video was posted an hour ago. You were the first person I thought of when I started to doubt myself & my ability to be a foster parent…✨🙏🏽 Thank you for sharing this 🥲

I work for the Federal Government and we get up to 12 weeks per year of Paid Parental Leave. My husband and I used this twice to foster newborns and it was very helpful.

Yes, it is. I was able to use it intermittently for Baby JuneBug. She got RSV at 4 months and I had to stay with her in the ICU a state away. 3 weeks later, she was readmitted with pneumonia. My regular leave wouldn’t have covered that. People don’t realize that these kids have WAY more health problems than other kids just because of the stress they live with.

Thank you for this video. I have been planning to become a foster parent ever since age 13 and I'm 33 now. So 20 years. I was not in foster care as a kid but I had something very similar to a kinship foster care situation going on because my mom was not at all a fit parent so... that's the main inspiration for my interest in this I think. I've been learning how to be trauma informed and be more fully prepared for foster parenting for a good number of years now, about 5 years. Spending a lot of time in Facebook groups hearing directly from former foster youth and stuff like that. There seems to be endless stuff to learn about. I think one of the hardest logistics near the beginning is how to even learn about and decide the non-state agencies and how to handle a bunch of Christian agencies existing as the only thing in a lot of states when you're an atheist or things like that. I am glad I took the time to heal a lot of my own childhood trauma before pursuing trying to parent this way but i wish I was more financially stable. I feel ready emotionally but not practically to start this process of foster parenting. I hope within the next 3 or so years I will be fully ready to start foster parenting.

Foster care has always been interesting to me, as a young kid I read a story with a foster kid and it was the first time I’d ever heard of such a thing. I’m not healthy enough to foster and it isn’t something my partner would be interested in doing. Still I cannot get enough of your videos, I find the content fascinating and you make it easy to listen. I’m sure there are potential foster parents out there that are getting so much help from you and in turn this helps the kids. Thank you for all you do!🧡🖤🧡

Thanks so much for this video. I am in the process as a single person and although I have an earnest desire, due to supporting of my aging parent, this last month, I have come to the conclusion that it is not right at this time for me. I have been in prayer and reflection and this video comes along🤔. I am considering looking into CASA as another avenue to support foster children. I appreciate your transparency and education. Your scenarios are always illuminating and entertaining 😊. Also thanks to the commenters who also raised…it is ok if it is not the right time!

My girlfriend and I have talked about this after we hopefully get married. Finding out we very likely won’t be able to have biological children was tough… and yea maybe it’s a mourning period but health is more important to us. We want to be able to give children a good home and even think about adoption. :)

Hi Laura! Thank you so much for making this video 💕 I was wondering if being single makes the licensing process harder? I would love to meet someone someday, but I’m mid-20s and feel like I’ll be ready to foster before I’ll be married lol is that realistic in your experience, or do they strongly prefer couples?
@foster.parenting

During licensing, the worker may want to see that you have the time in your life to accommodate the appointments and also a strong support system to help you cope with the ups and downs, and potentially help babysit the kids. If I was single, I would ask the worker if they have other single foster parents they could introduce you to so you can get a realistic picture of what the needs are in your county. Soooo many single people foster, so it is possible! :) Ty for your care and taking this seriously.

As far as finances go, I have about 95k in my bank account but I'm single and been unemployed for a while. Do you think I would be considered financially stable enough to have a foster child? Legally or just practically. I've been wanting to do it with an older teen while I have the free time now, and when I'm more experienced and have a family /partner foster younger kids as well
