This scene has stuck out to me when watching the film as an adult. Angela Lansbury and David Tomlinson give a moving portrayal of two people who have been resigned to living alone for so long that they are too scared to change that when they finally find someone.

The one ailment of my adhd growing up was missing the subtle plots because I was engaged in the cinematography and me fantasizing in my own head of a bedknobs and broomsticks world and never realizing the kids wanted a family. Now as an adult with my condition I see now what I missed as I watch childhood movies. On a positive note I would always notice the set prop gaffes such as a an article of clothing in one scene and no longer in other scenes while the actor was wearing the same clothes and other things such as the same set design from other non related movies of that sort that most other people didn’t notice when I would ask them after watching a movie.

Between that music and Professor Brown leaving makes me feel sad. It had me thinking of my father who passed away from a heart attack 2 months ago. I didn't even get to say good bye to him except when he was in the casket.

This scene was one of my first impressions of the movie (some years ago when I was just browsing random Disney stuff), and when I came across this scene, I was like, “wow, the emotions in this films are just DEEP!” 🥺 It doesn’t just show off the live-action/animation dazzle dazzle but delves into character depth and emotional scenes…it gets me every time too! All these five really want is to be a family. ❤️ and oh boy, they NEED each other!

Ahhh right?? 😭 They all deserve each other so much! ❤️ They’re like the UK version of the Brady Bunch, or rather the “Browne-Price-Rawlings bunch” (it’s a mouthful, but anyway). Dang, Emelius loves the kids, he is in love with Eglantine, Eglantine is in love with Emelius, the kids adore these two grownups and believe they could be their new mom and dad, and said two grownups are so SCARED to admit that they all NEED each other. If that doesn’t scream emotional depth and a crazy amount of character development, I don’t know what will! Reasons why this is one of my favorite films and why this is one of my favorite scenes.

She’s my favorite kid among the 3, haha (I still love Charlie and Paul though, but Carrie is still the best)! Carrie was the first one to be nice to Miss Price and actually speak up to have them all get along. Besides, after being the only girl among her siblings, she’ll need that mother figure to look up to…who else would fill those shoes but Eglantine?

The 5 of them would be EXCELLENT as a family!! I feel Carrie's EXACT pain as he leaves,as they all have formed a FANTASTIC friendship with him, after he were SO lovely to them all, volunteering to step in at the football match,AND entertaining them by juggling with the apples.

Right?? 🥺 That’s his way of saying “I love you, and I know you love me too” to Eglantine without words. The look on her face after he kissed her hand….pure heartbreak 😭💔 She loves him too, but doesn’t know how to tell him! Both a little scared, neither one prepared…they might not be “beauty and the beast” (ok, the beauty is there with those two, but no beast 😂). But there IS such beauty with the bond and love of this pair while the beast comes in the form of their fear, insecurities, and of course, the war.

Wasn't their fault, they were young kids (remember the oldest child is supposed to be 11) who really took to him. Like Miss Price though, Mr. Browne was used to being a lone wolf, never having to assume responsibility for others but himself. So despite really caring for Miss Price and the children, the idea of settling down and putting down roots with a family unit was unknown and scary territory. The kids couldn't have picked up on his apprehension.
