Great presentation on authentic bedrolls. Todd you are a wealth of knowledge and an inspiration to us all. Your tall stature notwithstanding, you are a giant among men.

I'm a Junior Member of the AMM and I just want to say thank you for these videos. I find them to be very helpful. I plan on attending the 2015 Nationals with some brothers from my brigade and hope to use what I learned then. Thanks for the videos brother!

MrTigre, Yes those are deerskin leggings which I tanned and sewed and have been wearing for many years. That is why they appear black and shinny. I am also wearing Plains style side seamed moccasins made of Elk hide which i also made. There is a number of places you can buy such items, but I recommend that you make them yourself.

brilliant, Teton; thank You! a friend recently traded her extensive collection of mink, fox, etc. for an old robe. it is magnificent, in both luxurious texture and aroma. please, Teton, what is a natural method to remove smoke and body odor (imparted by it's previous owner, a WY guide)? and what, please, will soften it's leather? it begs the honor of warming visiting travelers.warm regards,Kristine.

great info. thanks for sharing. Not sure what it is but i find when in the woods no matter how good by bedroll is or how warm and comfortable i am ( or miserable) i ALWAYS sleep real light ! i think it's just bein' in the woods and bein' aware or somethin'. Tim

I have a buffalo hide with a brown material sewn onto the inside. It appears to be very old. I was told that it was a lap shawl, but seems very large for this. Maybe a robe. Any thoughts on this?

The animal has the benefit of the hide being attached. But if you're wearing a hide, the fur can plug up all those little tunnels in a large hide that can funnel air underneath and make it drafty.

The obvious question is whether the boogie man will leave you alone when you are hiding under a buffalo robe as compared to hiding under your bed.

Did you buy the oilcloth or make it? Now I can estimate the length of the oilcloth that I will need for winter camping. A very good topic and video. Thank you.

If you plan to go about living in the out-of-doors the very first thing you need is a broad-brimmed felt hat. Get a piloncillo sombrero if you can. Since before Peter Stuyvesant and The Pilgrims. Go ahead--- splurge. Your youthful complexion will thank you in 40 years. Best Hat Award.

Good lord. That buffalo robe setup you showed looked like the most comfortable bed ever. I immediately looked up the price of those and... oh golly. Do you have recommendations for purchasing them for outdoors use? For instance, are blemishes and bare spots a big deal? An investment like that requires research!

@@joshfisher5349 we probably wont hear back from our host so I just went out and bought a pendleton yakama camp.throw..looks to be the same size of the Navajo chief blanket seen here. The yakama works out perfect though. 2 broad horizontal stripes that run lengthwise to me almost seem.to.mimic the chief robe. Not as dense but its still.good for the outdoors. It is somewhat water resistant but as for finding a good Navajo chief blanket wed probably have to buy a rug at this point..being Navajo myself i see them around but they run a pretty penny and that is just beyond my means. But yeah check out pendletons line of yakama camp.blankets. good shit. Full size is cool.but the throws are good enough for me..guess it depends on your size..

The finer the wool, the more soft, warm, durable, pleasant to the touch on bare skin, no itch or scratchy. Corse wool is totally the opposite. A measured blanket of fine wool is lighter than a same measure of corse wool or a mix of both. Fine wool also has the capability to keep you warm if wet.
