The two of you are now, officially, members of the worldwide Robin devotees. We love him and his voice. His voice is incomparable and just so magnificent. You must hear more of Robin's songs, particularly Massachusetts, Mr. Natural, I Gotta Get a Message to You, I Started a Joke, etc. He will keep wowing you with his voice and the emotions he sings with. I believe the Bee Gees recorded this version of For Whom The Bell Tolls for several reasons, but in particular as a dedication to their younger brother Andy, who died in 1988 at the tender age of 30 years.
@beeharbour
10 ай бұрын
I never heard any of the three brothers say they wrote any song for Andy but "Wish You Were Here" but this one and 3 or 4 others are frequently said to be "for Andy" in KZitem comments. I could be wrong, of course, but this seems particularly unlike a song about a lost brother. I don't think Barry, Robin or Maurice were as obsessed with Victoria Principal's break up with Andy (which this is claimed to reference) as perhaps some fans were. Everyone hates to see a sibling or a friend get their heart broken but generally none of us are still brokenhearted about it ourselves 15 or 16 years later.

Barry starts this off in an extraordinary r&b falsetto. Then he and Robin sing in unison before Robin unleashes the magic. The power in his voice soars to the heavens. To me, this is an anthem. One of things I like best (and there are many) about these brothers is the way they play to each others gifts. The contrast between Robin and Barry is stunning, but listen to their unison, their voices are in perfect pitch. Can you tell which is which? Oh, and Mo is the Webster's definition of cool. Their is a line in his 1970 song, "Railroad" that goes "I ain't juiced none of that glory." Every time I hear him sing it, I think only he is so totally cool enough to pull that off. I love seeing Alan right there playing guitar with them. This song is sad, I understand it was written about Andy's break up with his "TV star" girlfriend. This is only 5 years after his passing, so you can tell grieving is still going on. Lastly, I love this song so much, but this video gives me goosebumps. The twin towers are in the background. There truly is a "hole in my soul."

When Barry and Robin sing separate verses and then together, the contrast makes the lyrics all the more stunning. This song also shows Robin's power. Usually he sings more softly, almost like a cry. Although not as pronounced in this song, NOBODY had Robin's vibrato. He was variously called the "Songbird" or "The Pavarotti of Pop". Vibrato is something you either have or do not. Some claim it can be learned with much effort but not from what I have read or heard. His was untrained, effortless and totally natural. It is an absolutely accurate variation in pitch a dozen times in a millisecond. I've heard it described like AC (alternating current) and it involves the central nervous system's effect on the vocal chords. Right, don't forget Mo's voice is in there too! Notice the twin towers?

Even more perfect when you consider that, as songwriters, they are able to translate their personal tragedy into such a beautiful tribute knowing that so so many listeners can relate... making it somehow comforting to know we are not alone in our grief. After Andy died, their first song was WISH YOU WERE HERE, and also TEARS. Their father died almost 3 years to the day after Andy, they said of a broken heart. They wrote this song that same year. Some of the words sound like it’s written from the point of view of their father, but some certainly their own feelings. It was typical to give the song more commercial appeal by implying a love interest. I’m hesitant to request a reaction to TEARS, but..

Powerfully emotional song with heart-wrenching lyrics! The title is the same as Ernest Hemingway's classic novel published in 1940. Hemingway himself derived the title from a line of an essay by 17th century writer John Donne. It says, "...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; therefore, never send to know FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS; it tolls for thee!" So, the title of this song has a fairly illustrious history behind it .

Beautiful song! But I LOVE the Bee Gees so much! If you loved this you will certainly love another post disco song of theirs from the 90's called "Wedding Day" This song also features a lot of Robin solo. Its a loving song about a couple's wedding day, obviously, but I find it so precious. Even though all the brothers were on their 2nd marriages, those marriages lasted a lot of yrs for each of them. Maurice's second marriage 28 yrs until he passed away. Robin 27 yrs until he passed. And Barry's 2nd marriage 52 years. So I really commend them for that because that is very unusual in the music business! Another song from the 90's you might like is "One". And I don't think you have reacted to "How Deep is Your Love" which is from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. I think that one is my ultimate fave of the Bee Gees...and "Fanny..." haha

I think the 90s is such an underrated time-frame in the Bee Gees musical careers. While not dominating the music charts the way they did in the 70s, they really recorded some great songs in the 90s that are definitely worth exploring and re-visiting. For Whom The Bell Tolls is one of them. Another favorite 90s Bee Gees song that I'd love to see you do a reaction for is "Alone". That came out in 1997 and was one of their last hits. Also, if you want to watch a spectacular Bee Gees concert, check out their One Night Only concert from Las Vegas on 1997. The full concert is in youtube.

This is definitely one of the best song they wrote for all the reasons you said. I like romantic ballads with R&B sounds and so How deep is your love or Too much heaven are tied. Beautiful ladies can you react to the first song, you (daughter) probably will feel in your soul too! You may like Nights of broadway (live version) Thank you for your great reactions :)

Loved this reaction. Missed it on my recent uploads search but found it on your video list. If you like Robins vouce, you will love his lead in Don't Fall in live with me,. His son Spencer does a hauntingly besutifyl rendition of tis as well. See the Gibb Collective

I had a difficult time following the lyrics in this video and searched for others. You should check out some other live versions indoors as I felt I could understand the lyrics better. i copied them in case anyone else wants to read them. This was posted on another site with only their live video. I love your channel as you both are so genuine sharing the music and your feelings. I love forward to all your content! Also I adore versions of their songs with Robin's solo parts. He had an awesome voice. But I adore the group too. Some of the other live versions of this song show more of Mo's participation as he is often overlooked it seems when they performed. Love the Bee Gees! I stumble in the night Never really knew what it would've been like You're no longer there to Break my fall The heartache over you I gave it everything but I couldn't get through I never saw the signs You're the last to know when love is blind All the tears and the turbulent years When I would not wait for no one I didn't stop, take a look at myself And see me losing you [CHORUS] When the lonely heart breaks It's the one that forsakes It's the dream that we stole And I'm missing you more And the fire that will roar There's a hole in my soul For you it's goodbye And for me it's to cry For whom the bell tolls Seen you in a magazine A picture at a party Where you shouldn't have been Hangin' on the arm of someone else I'm still in love with you Won't you come back to your little boy blue I've come to feel inside This precious love was never mine Now I know but a little too late That I could not live without you In the dark of the broad daylight I promise I'll be there [CHORUS] I never knew there'd be times like this When I couldn't reach out to no one Am I never gonna find someone That knows me like you do Are you leaving me a helpless child When it took so long to save me Fight the devil and the deep blue sea I'll follow you anywhere I promise I'll be there
