On the Radio we would hear great songs from many Genres. The other station we would get was the Oldies Station that played Music from the 50's and 60's. The Artists would cross Genres in the 70's and 80's and write songs for and perform with each other. It was all about the Music. The artists would sound at least as good Live if not better than in the Studio. It was also before Autotune that makes everyone try to sound the same.
