Beechwoods is a Local Nature Reserve (LNR), south-east of Cambridge, England. It comprises 5 hectares of mostly even aged beech plantation. The thin, chalky soil leaves the trees very vulnerable in high winds, and 6 areas suffered damage in the 1986 storm. These areas have been felled and replanted. The wood was planted in about 1840 on an arable field; one can still see remains of medieval plough strips as a series of wide, flat terraces crossing the wood.
Beechwoods Nature Reserve is a small yet impressive wood of majestic beech trees. It is free to visit and accessible to the public all year round. Perfect for a stroll or to experience a quiet moment of calm.
