If you want to do this... just use the broiler in your oven... same thing and you can do 4-6 at a time if you want. I'm with you though Paul - I love wood fire for steaks (of any kind of meat). Cast iron for about anything else :-)

Menards has the Caveman which is comparable to the Beefer for $119. I did some cheap Wal-Mart ribeyes just to break it in and was highly impressed. Can't wait to do a reverse sear on quality meat

You know, I was about to say this would be good for a restaurant, but now that you mentioned it only does one, I can't see any use for this thing. It's basically just a high tech broiler that's really expensive.

Beefer looks like it works really well in that application, without an outdoor kitchen it would be a real mess. For $899 starting price for that you could get a outstanding grill or pit

It's a really cool piece of equipment. I don't think many will cook a steak from start to finish that way though. To me the main appeal and utility is for a finishing sear. In that regard it's hard to justify the cost when you can get nearly the same result from good lump charcoal. For those with the $ to burn, this would be awesome to own.

for me i enjoy the routine of prepping the grill..starting the fire..seasoning the meat..and then the ultimate joy of hearing the sizzle as the initial aroma of the steak wafts up in the air...sitting back for a few minutes with my beverage..and so on ...it is a welcome respite from routine..i respect what Beefer is doing but to each his own...

Steaks looked great but that was a whole lotta steps to do what you can do in a cast iron skillet much faster with probably the same results. Not 1500 degrees but you can get a skillet ripping hot! Love the channel Malcolm

Yea and what is insane about this thing... A big green egg, the top of the line, pinnacle of charcoal grill/smokers costs LESS that this thing. I am shocked that Malcolm even would recommend something like this. This video pushed me close to unsubscribing. I know this is probably sponsored, but if the channel goes down this path of trying to get people to buy trash/overpriced products, im out.

I love technology. But I also believe in spending money wisely. $1500 can buy you a LOT of more useful hardware. You could get a smoker, direct heat grill, and Sous Vide machine for the price of this thing and plenty of meat to cook and still have cash left over for beer if you make smart purchases.

Those steaks look fantastic! You're going to have to do a video sometime to show us how you clean up everything afterwards, like all the grease dripping all over your floor when the steaks are being pulled out to look at and turn over :-)

Just came across this video as I was researching how to use a 1500 degree broiler I just got myself. Has anyone tried doing an overnight dry brine first? I see where he said not to season beforehand because it will burn, but I wonder if that would happen with a dry brine since the salt is pulled into the meat. Always enjoy Malcom's videos!

If you are trying to flame kiss something like this, save yourself $1000 and use a blow torch attachment for a propane cylinder. Its faster, better, and cheaper... cant believe ANYONE would buy this overpriced piece of garbage.

I can do the same thing over a fire pit using a tripod. But get better flavor from some nice seasoned oak. And I can cook 5 steaks at a time. When I put the steaks on a plate to rest them for 5 min before the final cook I can use that juice in my compound butter.

That is a great advertisement for the Beefer and it does a great job but the average man or person can't afford that expensive cooker just for the occasional steak or beef cook. The grill grates do just as good of a job cooking steaks and a whole lot less money. I love watching you BBQ and cook but there is just no way many of us can affod some of these cookers you have. Most of us just have to stick with the good ole Weber Kettle. I know myself and a lot of other people who follow you would love to see more Weber grill cooking.

Great Video! Got my Beefer XL and used a couple of times. For thicker steaks (tenderloins for example) during the rest phase, should that phase just be longer than the 5-6 minutes or can you cover the steak so some heat builds up internally on top of the beefer? Thank you!!

I like salt and pepper on it before I cook it and and I sear about 2 min per side on my pit boss and very little cook time after I sear it for medium rare I take them off when they feel the perfect firmness for medium rare
