CAN YOU TALK ABOUT COMB BETWEEN FRAMES, BEFORE YOU PULL UP???????

When you're about to pull a frame from the hive, it's crucial to pay attention to the comb between frames. Before lifting, make sure that the comb is not overly attached to the adjacent frames. Bees can build comb that connects frames together, and if you're not careful, you might end up tearing the comb or damaging it during extraction. To avoid this, gently use a hive tool to carefully separate the comb from the neighboring frames. Slide the hive tool between the frames and the comb to release any attachments. Be cautious and gentle to avoid causing unnecessary stress to the bees or damaging their hard work. Once the frames are free, lift them slowly and steadily to minimize disturbance. Inspect the comb for signs of brood, honey, or other important details while being mindful of how the frames are positioned and supported. This approach helps maintain hive health and ensures a smoother inspection process. Happy beekeeping, and best of luck with your hive management!

Your are doing a great job as a new Keepers Hive user. Takes some time to fully appreciate how to use the tool. David a few small details: Remove the observation window before the frame guards. Use the handles on the frame guards to pull them off... it is easier than you are making it. The ends of the top bars have no propolis on them. You notice how calm the bees are when you minimally disturb the hive with inspections. You started the colony later in the season in this hive so they tended to store more honey in the brood chamber than the supers.

Jeff from southeastern NC. Back in the bee world this year after a long break. Started back with 2 hives. Been battling hive beetles this year. Seems to be a good year for them. Been using beetle traps, swifter sheets, murder sauce and keeping the areas in front of and around the hives covered in grub kill. Did an inspection today, 7-28-24, and only saw two, which were eliminated, so hopefully we’re alleviating that problem. Love your videos and have learned a lot!!

On that hive you are working on i could see the frames are so jammed packed have an idea on this to eradicate that problem with the first frame, my idea is to have the side of the box wall on hinges that open up exposing the first frame so you can pop it out as now you have no box wall making things more difficult when you have completed your inspection line the frames back up in there position then pop the wall of the hive back up locking it in place 🎉 You can have that idea for free 😆 my friend.

Set up an old nuc as a remote fedder box / robbing target like you had shown in a video a while back. Wasnt having much sucsess on day 1 & 2 but they finally figured it out and are happily robbing the snack bar. PNW beekeeper so our flow is finally over but honetsly thats suits me. I wasn't even looking to get honey this first season back in the hobby; just wanted to develope some colonies and catch some swarms. But hey caught 2 swarms picked up a overwintered colony from a bee-club member and ended up being given another swarm from the same guy later in the season. Every hive i have had direct controll over (5 of the 7) went great and have built up extremly fast (one of the swarms ended up helping my uncle whos NUC swarmed & went queenless; the newspaper trick worked a treat.). Love your content you're my go to channel to see whats new goin on and pointers or tidbits to take with me next time inm down checking the hives. keep up the good work.
