With that terrible brood pattern example, how do you know it's a bad pattern vs the brood has just hatched from those spots in the center already?

How would I honestly know, in the bad brood frame if the queen walked back over the amazing brood pattern filling in the spotty holes, all the brood hatched and just left the few she came back to fill ?

*Knowing what you're looking at is 80% of the success with bees. You can fix it or decide to move from a hive if you know what the issue is. Great stuff.*

Hi David! Where do mites contract viruses if their life cycle is spent within the hive? If they are stuck to a worker bee and the worker bee dies in nature, I do not believe this mite can find another bee, as the mite goes down on the ground with the bee and the possibility of this mite to attach to another bee in a flower is almost zero.

They pick up viruses in the hive from bees and they can quickly jump from one bee to the next. They reproduce in the capped brood cells of honey bees.

I have a really high number of Yellow jackets in my area. Would they hurt my hive? Would my hive hurt them?

Finally starting a hive this spring. Been studying apiculture for four years now. Before you even got into the video and showed the mostly capped honey. I said, that’s honey not brood. 🤦🏼♂️ people really look at honey and wonder if it’s a brood infestation?

Yes, I was once called in to evaluate AFB in a hive, and when the beekeeper showed me the area, it was a frame of honey.

Hey David, great video 👍😁🐝 quick question...can you use dead bees in a hive to do a varroa mite test? For example, if you find a lump of dead bees at the entrance of a hive during the winter that weren't there a day or two before.

Hi Jessica, you can but it would not likely reveal the same results as a summer collection of mites directly from the brood nest area, from nurse bees. Mites could have exited these bees on their way out in an attempt to remain in the cluster and near the small amount of winter bees.
