I've been considering bee keeping for a long time. This year I finally pulled the trigger. I've invested in a hive and purchased my nuc to start my first colony. I very much appreciate your videos and the wealth of information you share. Thank you! I will also be looking into your courses.

I’ve been keeping bees for 5 years, got started when my oldest grandson told me he wanted a bee hive for Christmas. Went to some classes but your videos are much more practical and informative. I learn something new every time I watch. I have had 50% death loss every year, hopefully I can do better with your helpful information. Thanks!

David, do you have a video about packing down colonies for winter prep, for weaker colonies to pack down from 2 to one deep box and what to do with extra frames of you have more than 10 with brood and resources on them.

I'm surprised you don't use escape boards prior to removing the supers. Seems like it would be a lot less work for you and less disturbing for the bees.
@beek

I use to use bee escapes, but with small hive beetles, I hate to have all the bees leave a super, unprotected for the beetles to attack.

Brutal with squashing the bees dude. A couple sharp shakes and they will come off without all that banging and squashing

David, love your videos. Any suggestions on a french press?
@beek
3 жыл бұрын
Good question. I started out with french presses made of glass and they all broke. So I was at a bee conference out east a few years ago, and I needed one. So I stopped in at Starbucks and bought a solid stainless steel one. Still have it. Very good quality. Some have a spring that holds a screen on the plunger. I do not like those.

With a demanding job and a chaotic year, self care has become very important! I tend to stay busy, so I try to spend a quiet moment watching the bees and chickens. :)

How to get most honey,Deep super or med ?
@halleyevans1980
2 жыл бұрын
A deep would give you more honey since it is deeper. It will be heavier to carry but other then that it will work just like a medium but will take a little longer to fill but not to much. :) The reason people use mediums is because they can get heavy when filled with honey. If you are young and strong go for it, other then that you can use whichever you prefer.

My beekeeping association is not doing classes during covid.... How long should I keep feeding syrup into the fall? When do I switch to dey feed? Help please!?
@beek

You can feed until temps dip below 50 degrees. After that bees really do not consume sugar water. I usually add my Winter-bee-kinds when bees will no longer fly because of cold temps.

I don't. You could probably use a wire brush lightly or tool to clean out any clogged spaces.

Interesting , i have a question , can a queen sting you , have you been stung , watched many videos , many pick them up to mark them , be interested to know , say hello to your wife hope the recovery has gone well.
@beek
4 жыл бұрын
Yes a queen can sting but she does not lose her stinger like workers because her stinger is not as barb to stick in your skin. But she rarely would sting. She only uses it for rival queens. I've handled and marked hundreds of queens and have never been stung by a queen. Workers, yes!
