The year 2019 marked the 40th Anniversary of the first Thomas II type of 7¼" gauge steam loco being built by Roger Marsh. Peco, a manufacturer of model railway accessories based in Beer, Devon, on the southwest English coast, owns that first Thomas II. It runs on the Beer Heights Light Railway which is part of Pecorama - Peco's popular tourist attraction. As a regular summer attender at the BHLR with ELLA, a loco I built in 1991, I was invited to the 40th event with my brand new 2-4-2 Thomas II version which I completed just in time for the event. My loco is called 'CENTURION' and carries THE ABBEYDALE EXPLORER headboard which refers to my home track - the Abbeydale Miniature Railway. For the enthusiast THOMAS II is a 2-4-0 saddle tank loco with a tender whilst CENTURION is similar but with a 2-4-2 wheel configuration and extended tender. Both are vacuum brake fitted.
