In this video, I share how being a passenger on a familiar road led to new insights, much like observing a Beethoven recording session. Alberto, my "partner in crime," played Beethoven's Sonata No. 6 at Czerny's tempo from the Hasslinger edition, which we follow in our project. Czerny's varying metronome marks reflect his ongoing quest to capture Beethoven's ideal tempo, though modern performances often play these works far too fast. To demonstrate, I sped up Alberto's performance to show how absurd Czerny's single beat tempi would sound today.
