Such a great performance of this Beethoven sonata!

Is Goode the most underrated pianist today? I've been listening his Bach Partitas - almost every day since 2003. I've been collecting other artists as well but his interpretations are still preferable, even over Gould. This is the first time I've been listening Beethoven by Mr. Goode and it has the same emotions and quality as my favorite: Albert Brendel.

I discovered this guy playing the les adiuex sonata he is mind blowing, viciously fast and fluent but soft and beautiful like a fuucking king fisher swooping rivers on a summers day - he is a true Titan if pianism.

I agree, but I think Perahia and Barenboim are the best Beethoven interpreters ever! But I do love Goode as well.

I know this dates me but it is impossible to hear the Andante without thinking of Adventures in Good Music with Karl Hass.

Funny you mention that. Beethoven himself is said to have made the same comment about that movement.

overall, I've listened to several cycles and this one I would choose to keep over any other ones (if they all were to disappear) - he seems to understand how to insert emotion into the music in addition to very strict and perfect rhythm and accent. he's done a fantastic job and these are some of the finest piano performances I've ever heard. I love the 18th and 22nd in particular, but they are all fantastic - just divine

Good Day soory,my English is not good…I just want ask about (pedal).where should I pedal in Beethoven 's pathetique 3rd movement ? I'm fell it's not easy to me.sometimes too more and sometimes too less…

丁筱翠 don't pedal much. I don't have my music on me, but pedal after the second repeat of the theme (that slow part). And the other parts that are "slower". Meaning the parts that use quarter notes, and the harmonic minor descending runs that come before the themes.

Most Beethoven legatos on the left hand could use finger pedaling. You hold base note longer than it’s duration, while the right hand remains clean.

The really best players for Beethoven sonatas and concertos were Emil Gilels and Wilhelm Kempff. These two had a perfect piano sound for Beethoven.Ashkenazy is the only one with a perfect sound for Beethoven 5th piano concerto
