Beetlejuice 2 is like a 7/10 for me, flawed but better than most sequels or reboots. I would be down for a 3rd and final movie. Top 5 Burton movies 1. Beetlejuice 2. Tie between Sleepy Hollow and Mars Attacks 3. Ed Wood 4. Batman 89 5. Pee Wee Honorable mention would be Frankenweenie, I think it's his best animated movie.

I think my biggest issue with Burton is he hasn't grown as a filmmaker at all. It's a lot of the same stuff. He was exciting in the 90s but man, what a dreadful 20 year run bar maybe Sweeney Todd

I mean I had a similar background/upbringing to Amanda's, and rap culture dominated umc private school white culture in that era. You'd have preacher's daughters dancing at the cotillion like they were on stage at magic city

Watched the movie last night, I agree with the sentiment, i'm glad it wasn't bad, but at the same time it could have been great. The biggest difference for me is that it looked calculated (the dancing tiktok musical scene, the genz bits to appeal the Wednesday audience, etc) compared to the original which is just a constant flow of wackiness but cohesive storytelling.

22:15; 😂 Tim Burton like Ridley Scott strike me as the type of directors whose filmography would be even more impressive if they simply did 1/2 - 2/3 as much as they have :) Hope y'all will be reviewing Jeremy Saulnier's Rebel Ridge on Netflix?!

I agree with Van on saying it's a pretty good movie but a little disappointing because I thought it had some great moments. Like he said, there was a great movie in the mix but too many storylines and pointless characters. Still better than most sequels or reboots. Top 5 Burton movies 1. Sleepy Hollow 2. Mars Attacks and Beetlejuice 3. Ed Wood 4. Batman 89 and Returns 5. Frankenweenie

I was so disappointed in Beetlejuice. My buddy and I looked at each other with the hope that it would "git gud" and it never happened. I didn't expect it to b great, maybe not even good, but decent and it failed even at that. Surprised it's getting so much love, even from these guys. I feel like I'm on an island with this one lol

Funny story about the last porno theatre in Vancouver. Well, I have heard a few. This one though involves a police officer who was sent undercover to investigate prostitution and narcotics. THEY LEFT HIM UNDERCOVER FOR 8 MONTHS! Who did this poor bastard piss off? There is no way he didn't have enough evidence for dozens of indictments after the first 2.5 hours.

I disagree that its a well made legacy sequel. I'm a huge fan of the first and I didnt love how they character assassinated lydia - reducing a strong willed female into a soppy mess. William Dafoe, I didnt think was that funny and agreed, could have been excised. The 1st 40+ minutes was really just dull and there was too much filler and not enough Beetlejuice considering how watered down and bad the plot is. Theroux's bad wig was distracting too.
@RIP_Greedo

I thought this movie was painfully boring. Just no stakes or tension throughout. As is mentioned a few times in this pod, half the cast is just sort of... there. Dafoe and Bellucci could have been cut completely. Jenna Ortega is transparently in this movie solely because she was in (Tim Burton's) Wednesday and that was popular; here she is doing the default Jenna Ortega character in a totally flat subplot. Had the movie taken any of its contents more seriously we could have had some stakes and tension and emotional investment in whatever alleged horror or comedy might ensue. Also lol at the only black people being the "soul train" dancers and conductors.
