You explained perfectly how I felt after watching the film. As I watched the sequel, I had to keep reminding myself to enjoy the movie and not cling to the original too much as I watched. I did enjoy the sequel, but something about it didn't land entirely with me. That being said, I'm pretty sure I enjoyed my initial viewing of the original, but it was probably the 4th or 5th viewing where it started to evolve into something I cherish. I feel that once it's available to stream, and I can rewatch and digest everything (because a lot of things happened within that 1:45 movie), I will appreciate it more.

Just saw it! I enjoyed it. It's a corny, campy, eccentric, funny movie about death and the afterlife starring Michael Keaton, Part 2 after 36 years or so. The first movie (1988) was an eccentrically funny Tim Burton movie about this couple who dies and their journey into the afterlife, and Tim Burton expands on that same theme for a 21st century audience in this one. It had more than a few callbacks to the old, but its the same generally light-hearted, fun romp with Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton shining in their leading roles. It's a good movie, not a great movie, but just a good, fun comedy. It's not going to win an Oscar, but it very well might make you laugh. The end left the door completely open for another sequel.

@djsugarbear6715 I'm wondering if it was to keep the rating at PG-13 maybe? Because a form of that word is said earlier in the film. But I suppose it could be both, as they seemed to be having a little fun veering toward saying it again in a 3rd scene. Maybe it was kind of an inside joke on the production or something. The original features the same word exactly once, but it doesn't have any comparable scenes where it's almost said again or bleeped. I think there are some other subtle jokes & things like this buried under the more obvious one-liners & gags amidst the somewhat chaotic plot.

@@ioncewasmikey The original was also PG. you can say more than 1 f word in a PG-13 movie. Also, if it comes down between keeping a PG-13 rating, then I would just not have the line in the movie. Just took me out of the movie.

@@movies_are_life It was a head scratcher for me as well, but I can't imagine the bleep was only there for comedic purposes. Do you remember the part where O'Hara almost says it too but then says another word at the last second? That was funnier to me than the bleep, but also had me wondering "why?" There were other things in the movie I couldn't quite pin down a reason for, but those choices did seem intentional. Maybe they could only pair 1 f-bomb along with the gorey gross-out bits & some of the other darker elements? I'm really not sure.

I just left the cinema. I did not really care for it. SPOILERS: While all of the actors did a very good job, the story was a hot mess and the final act felt like a carbon copy of the original movie. Delores and Wolf did not add much to the story. Lydia and Astrid were just perfectly fine with Delia passing away which was odd. The would be heartwarming scene between Astrid and her father was undercut by the way he looked. Finally, the last 5 minutes of the film were dumb as hell. If it ended with Lydia getting older, eventually passing, and maybe going to heaven in a beautiful sequence I may have given it a thumbs up due to a strong ending, but it basically ended on an extended fart joke. Due to the immediate conclusion, I left feelings weirded out, and most of my audience did not seem to like it. I just, I just could not get into it, and I truly tried.

My thoughts as I was watching it and had the thoughts by you and Stuckmann that it felt a bit overstuffed were that I wisht hey ahd made a sequel earlier to cover some of these other plots cause I think if this movie was split into two we'd have two GREAT movies... that being said I LOVED this movie I was having SO MUCH FUN with it as it was going! Constantly laughing and the returning cast feel like they came right off the 88 set!

@wyatt1483 • 11h ago It could just me maybe....or the dad I don't know if anyone really knows this, but in real life he's a Pedophile. I didn't understand why in half of the movie they needed to keep him as a quintessential character. it felt gross and unneeded and dumb. Anyone else feel the same?
@ioncewasmikey
3 сағат бұрын
I've got mixed feelings on this. Technically they could have just had him be dead & move on with a completely different plot, but with his death being a recent event in-universe, coupled with the focus on the afterlife in that universe, it might have felt like an odd choice not to include his character. Hard to say. On one hand, they certainly didn't treat him with reverence, as pretty much every appearance was the basis for a sight gag. But on the other hand, they probably had to pay him for using his likeness, so he made money on the project most likely. At the end of the day, there wasn't really anything stopping Burton from casting him, as he has gotten work since the incident, so at least they didn't go that far.

@@ioncewasmikey i’ve brought this up to many people who have just totally shat on me so to hear some actual response is nice, and to be honest, I agree with what your reasoning and explanation is. @@wyatt1483 Oh wow really? Sounds like maybe you're spending time in some odd circles if that's the response you're getting. Sorry, not trying to be judgmental at all, but I wouldn't expect that type of response. Yeah I'm a bit torn on it, wish that it wasn't even something we needed to question, but there it is. I heard someone say that Burton was a fan of the character so he wanted to include him, but not sure of the validity of that statement. That would make some sense, I guess.

I was pretty underwhelmed by the movie, if I’m being honest. It was fine. But I thought it was pretty flat in comparison to the first. Uneventful. There were storylines that just happened, ended, and that was it. Something else happened, and that was it. Something else, and that was it. I feel like it was kind of dull and I barely laughed.

@ioncewasmikey

Keaton didn't have a ton of screen time in the original, and he was adamant that they not overdo it with Beetlejuice in this one. He is featured more here than in the original, but they attempted to keep that balance intact. Not really sure what you're complaint is.
