Got my first job in seven years (I have been a stay-at-home dad for a brilliant autistic son (he is seven, and is past algebra now, and can play music notes by ear and can write musical notation, among other things), so I treated myself by preordering from Perfect Circuit yesterday. Thanks for the demo(s), Ben!

Absolutely great module. Let's hope this'll grow into a platform that other developers like to make cartridges for, so we get a variety of low cost effects to choose from! I'd personally love to see all the farb fx, but also something like a super distilled version of Data Bender would be great. I'd also love a chorus, but fir that we'll probably have to wait for a stereo version of the module...
@DivKid

Yeah I'd love to see this to continue to grow. The FEEDBACK Flanger is a BBD and will do a nice chorus too, you can externally modulate it in one mode then dial in the centre delay time. The whole FARB range is a great idea!

@@cockur Sure, I just meant you have several digital effects modules on the market that have these effects and many more (some in stereo) without clunky cartridges. Also makes you think how far eurorack has come from austere looking stripped down function-specific modules, knob per function, etc. I'm not against any of it, on the contrary, this looks very fun and I'm not a snob or purist. Just wasn't sure about the potential of this, but the effects themselves are worth it.

excuse my ignorance but isnt all this perfectly doable all inside one module simliar to a black hole dsp?
@DivKid
10 ай бұрын
Well these circuits are analogue (except the XOR Electronics card) and not digital. That may or may not matter to you. Here you're swapping physical components and circuits, not changing code. These specific FX aren't available in another unit like the Black Hole though similar FX do exist elsewhere. The Happy Nerding FX Aid would be a good example of something that covers masses of ground. None of them though have an analogue four band CV controlled EQ on the unit. That may or may not be important to each person but it's a powerful addition.

well these are physical circuits (mainly analogue) so they need space to go on something. Of course there's the big nostalgia factor but practically it seems like a fantastic reliable way to hot swap actual PCBs and components.

Conceptually, this is a super fun idea, giving a single module a much greater range of effects processing than a 12 HP unit normally would. However, the history of electronic music production devices is littering with these sort of bespoke formats that hold promise but in practice fall off quickly and down the line become impractical as people lose cartridges and they become rarities on the used market. Would’ve been more future-proofed if it was an SD card slot and the programs were downloadable off the web.
@vinylarchaeologist
11 ай бұрын
There is actual analogue circuitry on those cartridges. It‘s basically a way to swap off the INSIDES of a module. Not sure how that is comparable to a digital module that uses SD cards.
@Wormsie
11 ай бұрын
@@vinylarchaeologist This is pretty much the only way to create an FX module with swappable _analog_ FX. (You can also put digital FX on the card, of course). Having cartridges wouldn't really make sense for a digital-only FX module.
