@@francostacy7675 I originally bought a medium sized head-tilt Kitchen Aid model, can't remember exactly which one. But I found it was struggling with some of the bread dough so I returned it and got the 7-quart Pro model beast. It's overkill for me most of the time, but every once in a while the extra size and power comes in handy. I've been too busy to use it every week these days, but I still use it quite regularly. It's held up super well. Still looks and runs as well as it did when I first bought it.

Great review! Glad that you stressed the importance of whether someone really needs a stand mixer and will use it to justify the cost. Kitchenaids aren’t cheap and they take up a lot of counter space. I just got my mom the Kitchenaid classic tilt head and metal grinder attachment. She likes to makes these fish meatballs that require a ton of chopping & mixing, but she’s older now and it’s a strain on her body. She used the grinder to grind about 10-12lbs of fish and used the flat beater to mix the ground fish and flour. I feel a bit guilty it took me so long to buy it for her since it makes her life easier and she actually gets use out of it 😔

My first mixer as a young mom was an Oster Kitchen Center, that came with all the attachments. I used it for so many things, but primarily for baking cookies, cakes, and muffins for my family of six. Wore out the motor after about 13 years. I now have the heavy duty Kitchen Aid Pro-line, a work horse I've had for over 20 years. I recently got the slicer/shredder attachment for it because of arthritis in my hands. So far I've only used it to shred blocks of cheese, slice cabbage, and slice potatoes, but I have further plans for putting it to use - for carrots (to use in your carrot cake bars recipe) and other things as I think of them. I've had the bread dough work it's way up the dough hook too, but I also use the dough hook to stir in nuts or chocolate chips into heavy cookie dough. I usually double my cookie recipes, so that heavy duty motor is perfect for me. I'm a new subscriber, and greatly enjoy your sensible, straightforward explanations and demonstrations. Thank you!

If it goes to 'stand mixer heaven' and it makes no sense to get it fixed, I will get another one. Cakes, dough, the attachments (meat grinder etc)...wonderful.

There are legitimate reasons to get one for some like people with arthritis who enjoy baking once a week or even occasionally. Compared to other accessories within the home I’d say $20-300 for one isn’t a bad asking price. Some espresso machines cost $1000.

I don't know how much I bake, but I've used a bread machine and other tools in my kitchen. I'm getting a refurbished artisan off the website so that I can get any jobs done that I may need. Hand mixers always fail me! After moving, we lost the actual motor hand part for my hand mixer and instead of buying a new hand mixer, I asked my husband for a stand mixer for Mother's Day this year. We have young kids that like to help bake and I figured the stand mixer would be best so that they can add ingredients and push the buttons while we are doing our baking. AND it's been so hard to "cream" butter and sugar by hand so I guess it's time to invest in the stand mixer. I'm hoping we will love it!

Good info. I have three stand mixers and one hand mixer: Cuisinart, KitchenAid and a Sunbeam. I purchased a hand mixee from Walmart for smaller mixing 'jobs'. Why so many? Initially, after burning out two hand and stand mixers, I purchased a Sunbeam. Not enough power so I asked The Hubby (yes, I am a female) to purchase a KitchenAid for my birthday. BUT, he purchased a Cusinart because it has 'more power'! I used it once and returned it to the box where it remains. Hated it! For my birthday, my mom purchased a 'professional' level silver metallic color KitchenAid. Love it and I called her 'Sylvia'. A year later, while creaming butter/sugar, I burned out another hand mixer, so I needed a more powerful one for small jobs. Purchased it from Walmart and it's fantastic! The Sunbeam is sitting in its original box. Since I enjoy baking & can bake almost anything, it's easy for me to burn out a mixer. Will I purchase another mixer? Probably.

Can u PLEASE tell about the Commercial 8 quart Kitchenaid stand mixer (NSF certified). It has a powerful engine, spiral dough hook and all premium class steel and dish wash safe attachments. My main purpose is dough kneading and I have read good reviews about this model on amazon. Please guide me about this one.

Great advice. I had a kenwood for about 37 years and it was used constantly. Then I upgraded to a KitchenAid and have had it for about 6 years. It too is getting a lot of use. I do use the dough hook for yeasted pizza dough and some breads but not sourdough. I added the pasta rollers and they too get used frequently. I have no need for any of the other attachments and think the slicer is one of the useless ones. Unless you are slicing veg for a BIG family. Mine also lives where it gets used simply because of its frequent use and as you said it is heavy. I will mention another point to coincider if someone is thinking of buying one. And that is price. If you intend using the mixer constantly then do invest in a better one that will cope with the intended frequency. Both of mine were not cheap but well worth it. There are some good less expensive ones on the market too that might suit less frequent use but will still cope.

Hello sir. Great video. There is a stand mixer on sale right now & am wondering if I should buy it. I cook fairly often things I used to not cook before Covid-19 & loving it. BUT, I do all this cooking by hand or simply with a hand mixer. So! Will I use a stand mixer? ( exactly like you said ) Do I have a place to put it! It would be nice to have for sure. Thanks for letting me rethink all of this. From Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

I am still on the fence and here is why: I don't bake often because we are trying to be weight conscience. However, I have been aging and my back kills me whenever I DO have to stand for a long period of time mixing with a hand mixer. So I am in a quandary....get one for my aching back or stop baking altogether. The other thing is that whenever we do "cheat" I buy from the grocery store bakery. It is filled with preservatives. Though I might not bake as much as I once did, I do cook a lot and have my husband on an intermittent vegan diet which has been healing up his kidney nicely. I have to recreate substitutes for his sauces etc that he can no longer have. I use my Cuisinart food processor all of the time as well as my Vitamix. The reason that I was thinking about getting a stand mixer in the first place was to make aquafaba. So I have been wondering....do I really even need a mixer with these two appliances?! I am not sure. I do know though that when I used to put those appliances away, they went untouched. I now have them in prominent places in my kitchen and use them all of the time. So, I have come to realize that I am an out of sight, out of mind person. If I put the stand mixer out in the open, I would probably use it simply because I love to experiment and I would actually see it mocking me. I tend to use things that mock me. So...as I stated initially...I am on the fence.

My right arm, dominant hand was crush in a career ending injury in the military. I gave up many things, baking along with other stuff. A friend bought me an inexpensive mixer from Aldi to encourage me to find my passion again for baking. It handled light tasks but when I tried making pizza dough with the bread hook attachment the bowl became hot. An electric burning smell from the motor. Only 3 cups of flower in the mixture. Obviously even though the Aldi mixer came with a dough hook the machine didnt handle the kneading. I finished off the dough, kneading it by hand. My left arm gets tired from doing all my tasks. The last thing it wanted to do was knead dough and forget about the Babka recipe. My question to you Sir is which type of mixer? Thinking about doing things one handed which type would you suggest? Cost is a major factor as financially things are tight but not too low as to make the motor over heat.... I am looking at some Kitchenaid mixers on Amazon, their Warehouse Deals (open box discount) or refurbished from the manufacturer. The birds enjoyed the ruined dough but my passion isnt for providing their buffet. I marinated on your question if I really need a mixer or not. I used to bake a few times a month prior to my injury. Maybe not enough to justify the expense or counter space. I am having to learn how to do things with my non dominant hand. VA physical therapist have been great at teaching me how to tie my shoes but perhaps I need to grasp for something more. Not sure the expense even for a used/refurbished mixer can be justified yet but I think it will be more than just counter eyecandy for me. As the previous person stated I enoyed the question and marinating on the question.

What a great question and I am going to give an odd answer. I would not get a mixer for dough. Honestly for dough I love my bread maker, when looking at everything that my new on can do, from jam to pasta dough I personally think that this is the best for the money and the effort. I really want to know how your journey progresses. I wish you the best and Thank You for your service. But the bread maker I think is better. Thank You for your question, for watching and please let me know how things are going for you.

Mmm, never made my own jam but The British Bake show has me curios about lemon curds and marmalades. I dont think I can learn fine detailed cake decorating with my left hand. I kind of learned how to get on with things and gave up on the fun "unnecessary" but joyful stuff. Never used a bread maker, I am analytical so something else to ponder given the lack of counter space. Made a pie for a friend, lattice work was terrible but much love in it. She thanked me profusely and ignored the appearance. I can do better, practice. New to your channel and You Tube but your joy comes through whether it is dryer balls or mixers. Foster cat is allergic to dryer sheets. Using the blue dryer balls, both of us are happy.

Firstly after venturing out in the You Tube world researching mixers returning to your channel is refreshing and comforting. All the other videos, some with slow motion and glossly production encouraged purchasing the top of the line models and all the attachments. GF of 11 years is 3rd generation Italian. We live in little Italy... She has fallen in love with the pasta maker and food processor. A tad regimented after eating ship board meals I am fine with repetitive recipes. She wants to cook all sorts of fancy stuff that requires a food processor now that I cant use a chopping board and my good knife. The expense has me pensive but also the cleanup. After 11 years together when she says she would like to make fresh pasta I know that means she fully intends on my doing it.... New to You Tube vortex but I dont see your videos where you use the attachments. Not so sure I trust the other channles reviews, most seem to be very much into counter candy machines.

@@cmcolemanhome My knowledge of a bread machine is limited. Went out to the big box stores to look at the display models. Only one bread machine in a sea of mixers. I wanted to try removing the attachments on the various models to see how hard it will be. I didnt foresee how it could appear to the dept store staff... I was not trying to self procure the bread hook. It is either too hard for me to do one handed or the floor models have attachments permanently fixed. Lol on cake decorating, military is all about attention to detail. My brain enjoys the creative stuff. Mocha syrup? My one expense, espresso machine. Open box deal on a good machine years ago. I practiced until I could do it one handed as coffee is a passion for me. Your bread machine suggestions are balancing my GF's counter top eyecandy prompts. Further research required. I will call the company to see if the attachments are permanently fixed in store display models.

Great vidio brother :] Kitchenaid sucks so bad for bread making dont get one for bread making at all if you make more than 4 pans of dough in a day lol. I have two KA one 600 series only good for cookings light stuff or very small batches of heavy stuff, and motor sounds like a tank out of the box lol. My other Kitchenaid is the commercial 8 Qt. is a nice machine and it is quite unlike the 600 series. I make all our bread at home about 12 pans every 8 weeks and if I use my Kitchenaid commercial 8Qt. its a all day job to mix dough for 12 pans of bread dough and can only make 4 pans at a time and that is pushing it, dough goes up hook and gets grease in bread dough and the machine overheats. I can let the machine rest 1hr and it still over heats by the 3rd batch of bread dough. Both get used for light stuff now before I blow them up lol I have lost faith in Kitchenaid after 2 years of making bread at home. Kitchenaid should not sell a dough hook with its machines pure joke and big waste of money for bread making at home if you want to make dough for 4 or more pans a day. Got so fed up with them we bought a 20 Qt. Commercial Dough Mixer for bread making. Just got a small Equipment Stand put it on wheels hide it in closet when not in use as its a 250LB machine. And unlike KA this works very well for bread making. The Kitchenaid is the commercial 8 Qt. sells for $800- $1000 in Canada, for our 20 Qt. Commercial Dough Mixer, Equipment stand and wheels it came in just under $2000 and worth every cent for making all your bread at home.

We got ours only due to making all our bread and tired of doing it in so many steps to make 12 pans of bread. As well as I have burned out both my KA making bread but under warranty so they got replaced. For me the only KA I like are the 700 series 7Qt 5 year warranty and the Kitchenaid commercial 8Qt 2 year warranty . Both run more quiet{same motor in both} then the other KA but I do not recommend KA for bread making at all if making more the 2 or 3 pans of bread. Keep up the great work with the videos :]

A money well spent in my book but agree think long and hard before purchasing one, they are not cheap but was able to get rid of several of my smaller appliances with this purchase and do not regret spending the money. Lots of great info. Like anything else (cookware, knives, etc.) you get what you pay for so always buy the best you can afford. That said, stand mixers (Kitchen Aid especially) are awesome. Not only are they powerful, that little port on their Xenomorph head allows you to make it a multipurpose kitchen tool while only needing to find space for an attachment rather than an entire small appliance. Definitely not worth putting yourself into debt for; but if you can afford it, absolutely treat yourself to one.

I made pizza dough for the first time a couple weeks ago and by the time i finished I realized that I might not be physically able to do it regularly and its definitely something I will want to do as I want to make lots of pizza dough now and try making so many breads. I ordered an ACEKOOL it should arrive tomorrow.

This is one of the clearer explanations about if it is necessary for you to buy a stand mixer or not. Thanks !!

I know this is an old video but I love it! and it is so cute how you talk like "but do you need a stand mixer?!" I normally skip videos like these because they are boring and super long. Really good job with this video!

CM, one of the best video I have seen. Great job of reviewing why you would/should ow a stand mixer. Been making pizza dough by hand for years. Now at 62 im ready for a mixer. Your thoughtful questions have address my concerns. Thanks for inviting us into you home.

I definitely make cakes, cookies and doughs at least twice per month for all my family. Now that I have started working, I don't have that much time or energy to do everything by hand, so thank you for solidifying my opinion! I am off to buy a small one.
