Some great advice Silverfish. I don't think it will ever be easy to sell silver as long as we have the fiat system. Trust is paramount if you are going to sell it for spot or more. Other than that selling it back to bullion dealers or eBay, you're going to probably get screwed unless you are on top of it with timing flips. Hold it long term. I'm not a seller I'm a fisher of silver. ;)

really a great video with lot of wisdom in it. I started silver stacking after i watched accidentaly one of your video one youtube almost a year and half ago i was searching for some documentary about economics. since than i learned a lot from your videos. and now i am proud to have almost 150 ounces of silver. in my childhood i found some British 92% silver coins in Pakistan in a canal with hand digging i never knew that its silver now I am in UK when i go back i will try to check my that old coins and now i can appreciate its values after so many (more than 20 years) years. i just put it in a tin box i like it a lot but never knew what it is... So very much for showing me this side of life... God bless you

+John Doe My thought is when the dollar is dead, people will work for 1/10 th ounce of silver per day. The next great depression will have few rules, one which will not be there is minimum wages. 8 billion people labor will be one of the cheapest items around. Therefore purchase pre 64 dimes and silver eagles. maybe 1/10 gold. hold it until the dollar is worthless. No telling what silver / gold will go to! If your old think about silver as a way to purchase cheap labor in the next great depression . Few will believe this but those in Zimbalway, or Germany after the war never thought that paper crap would be worthless, neither did the confederates in the US in the late 1860's!

Anything I know I can get a premium on I will sell those premiums pieces where I can get the most I can for even if it involves WORK.

GREAT advise for beginners! But- if you are buying & selling your PM regularly, maybe Ag & Au is not for you.... (Not referring to YOU- the "generic you"). I have only sold 2x in my life- in 1981 when the Hunt Brothers drove the price up- that paid for a year of University, and once to pay for a family vacation to see the final Space Shuttle launch. I buy for the "long haul", as an insurance policy. I buy from either local dealers, or APMEX. Know what you are buying, lots of counterfeits out there today- Thanks, China.

silverfish VT I volunteer a lot of my time helping out my local coin dealer. It's a fantastic experience getting to handle such a variety of coins and currency. He buys at 94% and to his good customers, sells at 110%. For bullion gold, I can do better elsewhere. But for rare stuff, a great buy. The best part is getting silver collectibles and choice bullion at 10% over spot. People bringing in premium coins that sold for many times over bullion years ago, are happy as hell to get the 94%, which is a lot higher than they paid. For most, selling for a better price is over their heads. In my case, I hope I never have to sell, which means my heirs can worry about it. I will leave instructions on what not to do. Don't sell at auction. Even the LCS is a much better place. An auction consigner gets 80% of the hammer price, which is about 66% of bullion. So he gets just over half of spot. The auction house gets the other half. Kijiji is probably good if you take precautions. As always I enjoy your videos. 13 minutes is just fine.
@silverguy6044

No one would buy premium bullion and sell for spot unless they are in pinch and need money fast. One of the drawbacks of PMs is liquidity...always has been...always will be. How are you going to wait for the right buyer when you NEED money to pay for your daily living expenses after you retire? Might be very difficult to do so. Especially since there's no telling what the spot prices will be when you NEED to sell. I think ebay is the worst place to sell bullion. You're losing 10% of the final value between ebay and paypal. That means you need over a 10% profit just to break even!
@1timby

While I'm new to PM's I'm not new to collecting. I had a serious coin collection. I don't plan on selling my PM anytime soon unless something major changes. Should we have a calamity of some type then I will hold on to my stash. I have plans for selling to a local place should I want to rid myself of my stash. As you stated folks have been brainwashed into this being like stocks. They hyped PM as a get rich quick scheme. They still are. I still see adds for buy now as silver is below the costs of it being minded. Sadly many don't see the real reasons behind this method of wealth preservation. They think in terms of fiat currencies & storing wealth in mediums that can turn to dust over night. Hopefully you will get through to folks...LOL

Great video SVT! You have to develop a list of dealers whom you'll sell to or use ebay to sell your perth mint bullion. Your LCS is convenient but they are better for generic bullion, gold maples/eagles/bars. I've sold to APMEX because they've offered the best prices on certain gold and silver coins. Ebay is great to sell any silver that has a premium. Engelhard silver bars from 1-10 oz can be sold for a premium on ebay but your LCS will give you spot. It's also very true that you have to know where you're going to sell your bullion before the first purchase.

silverfish VT For vintage coin collectors (also just about anything like comic books and old baseball cards) it's wise to have good relationships with major auction firms. Then you can play the commission game to get better prices when you sell. In most cases bypassing the LCS is the way to get the best price. I used to sell silver 1 oz Pandas to the LCS until I realized that I could get a price closer to retail on ebay. APMEX often pays better prices than your LCS especially if they run out of a coin in demand. If you sell to an LCS they'll just resell it to another dealer. It's convenient but not really smart on many coins. I would never buy or trade from another youtuber. It's too risky. I've never liked trades because it could be a setup for fraud.

yeah I agree. i think he should have included this -- dont buy if you cant hold it for a while. you might get lucky and it jumps 25% right after you buy but I doubt it. ur best bet is to hold it 15 20 25 years and if you do you cant have a set in stone plan today as to how you are gonna sell. things will look very different in 2040. will ebay have a viable competitor ? will the local dealer be paying better prices to compete with all the other selling options ? will there be better peer to peer solutions to prevent ripoffs ? who knows ? you will look at things then and then decide whats best

The middle men gobble up a lot of money; it's all about doing your best to remove the middle man. Beit by selling here on YT or a precious metals forum, you need to find a way to sell/buy directly from the second hand market without the middle man. That being said Ebay and dealers do have their place on occasion, just not ideal.

First of all, not everyone can wait it out like you suggest, maybe they need to get rid of it right then because they have to.. You don't know what people's situations or priorities are.. Your strategy to sell it when it's high because you're making a good return is a totally different goal and mindset than someone who stacks for insurance or to barter with it at a future time.

Very nice display, but just not for me. It's priced a bit too high (with me having a need vs want mentality). I'm hoping that unless something drastic changes in the silver markets that the entire series will have cost not much more than the cost of the display case he's selling. I still applaud his talents and efforts and wish him luck as it is a very nice display and a tempting impulse buy. You are spot on with the idea behind the collector's mindset. It's the love/appreciation of the item that matters not the possible ROI, as collectors never intend to sell their collections. I agree with getting the best available as well for the dollar spent. I'm only planning on getting only P mint ATB's and yes that will cost a bit more upfront but worth it to me. I recall your video where you said how you wouldn't mind having the expensive coin/bar that not many could afford to buy from you. I agree, that's not a really too bad of a problem to have in comparison to not having anything unwanted or that is otherwise worthless. I also agree with you that you only take a loss if you accept it and don't diversify in PM types (bullion/numismatics). I still have plenty of bullion sitting around if I need to cash out, some a loss, some gains, and some break even so I don't have to take a potential loss on the numismatics that someone would love to buy as bullion to flip. I will say though in a moment when you are in absolute need, how the ROI turns out is not so important as having something to get a ROI in the first place. If someone takes a loss without needing to do so and forgoes the research part of selling for the most ROI, then that is only their fault if they had time/resources to do so. Great advice on knowing your LCS buy back market and other platforms outside of that. I've found trades as a good way to resolve issues concerning cost to cost differences on items on here and in person with other people/LCS and it typically seems to be a better way to prevent getting cheated by someone. Everyone gets something, and for the most part everyone agrees they are getting the better deal for their own wants/needs. It is unfortunate though that we have individuals within this community that prey on others while still wanting to say they are one of us.

I think we are too close to major events to be gambling in and out of a physical metals position. I am trying to look at what will be traded for my silver, rather than in dollar terms. the only metric that makes since to use is current availability and mining production against the population's working hours. if in 1910, one would work all day for a dime, then in 2015 with decrease mining supply and increased population, one would work all week, on average, for the same dime. This figure only uses the mining supply and leaves out the massive stock pile back then which is down to zero, it uses the old money velocity, and it doesn't include manufacturing demands. In the US there is about a dime of silver mined per year per person. We must import about quarters worth to supply both industry and investment demand. If a global currency reset remonitizes gold and silver, I believe we could see the Gold to Silver ratio flip after some time. The Population could switch to using gold and silver aurum notes. These are divisible down to 1/100 of a gram and could go smaller. I don't pretend to know how they plan on "resetting" the currency or how much higher they will set gold and silver but I do know that the beginnings will come like a theif in the night and it will be to late to buy cheap once the revaluation happens. I also know that the us federal government & banksters inc. will do everything possible to stop it. I like thinking in terms of acres per ounce or hours per gram, but we must be patient. You should do a video on how to sell on ebay. That's how I plan to sell my premium stuff but any tip/tricks would be helpful. Please consider it.

I was with you until I heard the Patriots mentioned - now I know you must be outside the circle of Folly's YT trusted friends. But football aside - good input and appreciate the YT rip off story. This can be a tricky process. But very enjoyable = put enjoyment on the list too - it causes negative impact on the practical aspect of profit. But - combine practical (80%) and joy (20%) and this could be a very fun investment hobby.

Great vid as always Fish. Thanks for your time and efforts. As for the one's who would willingly pack up their hard earned savings and mail it off to someone that more than likely they've never sat across from.... Huh? "Don't do it"! As they say there's a sucker born every minute. (I think more often than that) Lots of shady sharks in the minnow pond. They say the oldest known profession is "Prostitution" it's not, it's separating a fool from his money.

DogSoldier1973 Here is the problem. I dont know how it was resolved. The KZitemr on the short end, stopped emailing me and disappeared after a while. Cant blame him, but it puts me in a weird spot. You cant just go blasting people on the internet, unless you have all the facts. I was just asking for caution.

silverfish VT nice video as always silverfish. I see that you have 1/10th gold eagles on display in this particular video. What is your opinion on 1/10 gold coins in general? I would really like to hear an opinion from a youtuber such as yourself on the matter.

I have started to collect /stack silver after I watched one of your video silverfish about November last year. I am really scared that I will lose money on silver here in UK. We paying 20% vat when we buy and when we sell we get about spot price. That's mean for example if I buy something to spot price what will never happen here, and sell tomorrow I will lose straight away 20% minimum

Is there VAT on Gold? Last I knew, there wasnt, and that would be my focus if I lived in the UK, or buying privately.

It is hard work collecting silver in the uk, the vat makes any initial purchase a sure loss. I collect because i love the coins first, i also came into this with a long term plan, i am abolutely certain i will not make any large financial gains in the short term. I will build a collection over 10 to 20 years making small but regular purchases and enjoying the journey. In the future selling may be very different than it is today, part of my plan is to not sell a single item (for now), hence i will not initially lose money on any purchase. My advice is to keep a record of every item you buy and what you paid including postage and the minimum you would sell it for. There are winners to be had, i was lucky buying the royal mint lunar horses and got some error mules, the new 2oz £100 coin is now selling for £170, the 2014 proof britannia is doing well as are others. Personally i am getting the coins i like and the ones i have a hunch about at the expense of the number of ounces. Build sets, a full set of something may command a better price than each individual item. Very much depends on the quantity you are buying, buying bulk is cheaper per coin but if you are buying a couple of coins at a time then you have to work smart for example buy a perth mint coin and a britannia together, the 2 coins share the postage and the generic bullion coin lowers the cost average of the premium coin. To me these coins are money so i could never lose money, im just saving up in a fun way and i feel my mind is getting wealthier as a result, if you are scared to lose money this might not be right for you. Only spend what you can afford, make mistakes and learn, dont think for a second you will get rich overnight and only do something you enjoy and the worlds your lobster

silverfish VT We have no vat on Gold but even i prefer Gold. Gold is hard to stack for an average earning person like me. Silver is much better to affordable. @Russell Bury i am not planning to sell silver soon. But you know life can be tricky and you never know when you need to sell bit. the worst thing is when you need money and you have to sell your PM at lost. @ mkw9999vr I buy most of my silver from them but they only sell silver coins which are legal tender. would be nice if we could buy here like in us anything (silver)without paying vat on it.

mkw9999vr It's my understanding that you have to store the silver outside of the UK in order to forgo ValueAddedTax. If you ship the silver into the UK, the taxman will hit you with a 20% "surcharge." silver-to-go is part of coininvest.com, whose bullion is based in Germany, even though they have a sales office in london.

Not everybody cares about a few bucks here and there. Silver turned out to be a losing proposition as many bought and were upside down in a matter of months. I could care less if I dnt get a profit as long as im not losing hundreds of dollars.

silverfish - as one of your buying strategies, do you see what has really gained in value over the last 20 years in the coin guide books, and then aim to get similar coins that are being issued 2014, 2015... ?

I think the other problem is that people get in a desperate situation and need money now. That is why Amscot and those cash now places are so popular. Many do not have a reserve so they sell their stack.

Gold and silver are NOT investments, although some people do speculate them short term. When I was in grade school in the early 60's my silver dollar would buy 20 candy bars. Today, it's value will still buy 20 candy bars. On the long term, metals do not really change value. The currency changes value relative to the metals,and everything else. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
