THANKS for the shoutout. EPIC video. I’m so sad Pny rep was essentially gaslighting you and I really hate this build turned out this way. It looks so cool and I know how much you love dbz. I really hope Pny steps up especially with talks about kingpin coming to them. The outcome of this might be the make or break deciding factor if I can trust Pny. I do love my tower 300 but the cable management is absolute h3ll lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol. I have to take the top and fan off all the time and risk cutting my fingers off if the pc is on lol 😆 I’ve got cuts and scrapes all over my hands for all the testing and swapping cables out. The orientation temp difference is absolutely mind blowing in your gpu and I’m glad you have started this discussion and made this video to help get things moving forward as well as showing people some things they should really be thinking about prior to buying this case. ❤❤ banger video as always ! I’ll be sharing my story soon with this case as well and my love for it but hate for the I/o lol. I also will show some of the mods and work arounds if your interested to see what options we have for i/o Plz keep us informed with the pny journey too.

70-72 is not a problem. HE is a problem. For 4090 that's very good if not great. There is no risks for the GPU's health . Even 80+ wouldn't be risky considering these things are designed to work safely for around 95+ . Because of reviews like this one , the companies like PNY are so under rated.

I bought The Tower 300 case 3 days ago. My setup is a Ryzen 7600 with a Corsair H150 and a PNY 4070 Ti XLR8. Immediately after starting to use and do the tests, I noticed my GPU temperatures were very high. In load stress tests it had never gone above 65 degrees and now it reaches 85/90 degrees in seconds. At first I thought I had done something stupid, but nothing made sense until I found the same post on reddit talking about the vapor chamber. Yes, this is not a problem with the fan setup or the case itself but with the fact that the video card is in vertical position. The video card fans reach 100% and seem to have no effect. Your video will help a lot of people because no one has talked about it yet. I had given up, but after what you showed in PNY's answer I'm waiting to know the final and also contact them. This problem is definitely related to the technology/design of the PNY XLR8's cooling system. My 4070 Ti uses the same as your 4090.

Thank you for this comment. Wow! That is insane! A 4070 Ti should NEVER hit those temps. But the fact that you also have a PNY further confirms to me it is a PNY cooler issue. This is useful info as I’ve been eyeing this case myself, but I actually wouldn’t be too alarmed by what you’re seeing. Personally I’d find it FAR less worrying than having my plugs melt. Obviously low-60s jumping to high-70s is suboptimal, but in my experience it’s also not unexpected when you try out atypical setups. I’ve had setup changes show similar temp deltas and sure, it’s certainly a bit off-putting. Especially if you’ve been building for decades and remember the days when 70C would crash and possibly damage your chip. I think that’s why a lot of us long-time hobbyists can be habitually over-concerned about keeping temps that are sometimes 40-50C below what these modern chips can handle. Were it not for the fact that I’ve watched modern TSMC chips operating at 90+ with junction temps as high as 105 I’d be a bit freaked too. But when you see them handling that for a while you realize oh yeah, I may not like 75-80, it clearly doesn’t look as good as 60-65, but it’s actually still not even close to hurting the card. It’s certainly possible PNY’s cooler design could be a bit more susceptible to larger thermal deltas than some other AIBs in atypical mounting orientations. It could even be completely model-specific. Mounting enthusiast GPUs in assorted different orientations is still a relatively niche thing, I wouldn’t expect the majority of AIBs necessarily test that sort of thing beforehand. But then we get to the issue of this being a $1600-2000 card. The way I say this is, if I’m buying anything around $1K plus, I’m buying equipment. Not toys. This is my thinking with all my hobbies. You expect a level of professional-caliber quality and thoroughness in design with equipment. But graphics cards have historically always been toys. And they continue to be made like toys. And some of that is really hard to get around even for the best-intentioned designers. Now they’re so heavy they need additional support bracing that’s often highly contrived in design because PC cases were never conceived to have to support these sorts of things. Circuit boards were never meant to operate as mechanical structure like this, the PCI terminals on motherboards weren’t designed for it either, and now they’re trying to force these under-built power terminals that melt on us. And honestly when GPUs are so temporary in their utility they may as well stay toys. When I buy a $6000 power amp it’s good for DECADES. You don’t get more than a few years of high-end performance out of a $1000-2000 graphics card. I’m NOT a fan of the normalization of $1500+ gaming cards for this reason. They’re still largely made like toys, so much of why is emergent from how old the current PC building format is, and they’re all out of date in a year or two anyway. Not to mention the performance delta is so huge over the entry level it’s making gaming unaffordable for a LOT of people. We start driving too many people out of PC gaming what happens is the market shrinks, the remaining buyers aren’t worth as much time developing product for and then our high-end disappears too, or becomes even more expensive for lower value product. Okay…that ended up on a long aside I didn’t originally intend to go down. But…I’m leaving it as is. Seldom comes up for me to articulate otherwise.
@ErockOnTech
2 ай бұрын
I appreciate the detailed comments and thoughts you shared. Thank you. You make an excellent point about GPUs being made like toys. That’s a fair assessment. If we are paying over $1,000 for a GPUs, it needs to be the highest quality possible. But I’ve tested a MSI Ventus 3x 4080 early on. It felt like cheap plastic. That card was $1,200 at the time. GPUs, like you said, are only relevant for about two years give or take. Now some people use their GPUs for 5-6 years. But every two years or so a new GPU generation emerges. Lastly, I know my 4090 is technically fine at 78-80c. But like you said, I really don’t like seeing that. Plus PNY claims there should not be a difference. I call BS on that. But if that is their claim, then clearly I have an issue. I’m still going back and forth with PNY customer support. I’ll let everyone know what happens in the end.

I thought you expressed very well the contemptible attitude these tech companies have for their customers. They don't really see us as people at all, just a means to make a profit, which, in my opinion, should be adjusted by governments, but evidently they share that same view. My personal gripe is the manuals that most of these components come with, many of which have diagrams that make no sense at all and are written as if penned by kids at best. What an insult that they could not even get a professional technical writer to write to some kind of standard and translated to that same standard - instead of "me speaky no engliss" (but they 'speaky' dollars and cents pretty well)! If that's racist, it is not my intention, I speak to the contempt! (And I apologize to you Kenshiro Genjuro! You speak very well indeed.) Even finding important buyer information is hiding behind marketing that just repeats stuff over and over which makes shopping for this equipment a frustrating and stressful chore that is currently, breaking me down into just wanting to make the purchase half informed, because it's just too hard and I'm sick and tired of learning all the faults and unfinished details that this 'equipment' ships with! My laptop lasted 8 years so it is within their capabilities and I would like the PC I want to replace it with, to last another 8 - 10 years, so I'm not your average gamer who looks at this stuff as disposable toys (it's not just the manufacturers). Over time, they've got us just where they want us and, having said that, the question is who are 'they' that got us to here? TLDR: This is me expressing my experience from the last 5 - 6 weeks... I'm spiritually, injured, by this experience, I'm not a young gamer. I remember valve power amps, turntables, high fidelity and B&W TV's, where this all began. At least they had a bit more class back then. My apologies Erock, this is way to long and inappropriate for this forum. I thought you could contact the cases manufacturer to see if they might have some light to shed on your situation. I know contacting these people can be frustrating (as is their intention) and I admire how you control your built up tension, but you never know. Through this you could gain some contacts that can help you with your channel perhaps - just a thought. Keep it up :)

Great video man, was really looking forward to this one, its too bad it turned out to be such a nightmare. In regards to the vapor chamber issue I recall this was a big problem with numerous reference 7900XT/XTX cards that had vapor chambers and again the degree to which users were effected seemed to vary with some reporting minor variance with many reporting high temps and very bad hotspot temps. I personally think if the manufacturer does not explicitly state which orientation to install the card then it should work the same in all of them so it sucks they couldn't give you a real answer and them just brushing you off initially saying it's "normal" was pretty poor customer service. I find that with these smaller AIBs they just outsource to a 3rd party RMA facility somewhere else and as GN noted in their ASUS fiasco, a lot of these facilities have a high emphasis on volume KPIs so the more tickets they "resolve" the better it is for them whereas they care less about the quality of the service given. It's good that someone more higher up was able to reach out and I hope they get your problem solved soon. I too had to mod my own thermaltake case earlier this year because the glass panels were choking my 14900K (even when undervolted) and also obstructing my memory OC since the dimms were going above 60C. After my mod everything runs chill as it should. I really like thermaltakes designs and their concepts but find their execution will have many drawbacks either putting yourself in an awkward situation where you have to just live with it or the user has to implement their own mods. Not having free access to the mobo I/O is a very poor design, that'd be an immediate deal breaker for me. Nonetheless love the DBZ theme but I'm personally a Vegeta fan 😉

It has all the connectors in the back and the only issue is some finagling needed to connect those in the right side(viewed from the back) if you forget to connect it before screwing the mobo. I had to put the PSU upsidedown as well so that it takes air from the bottom of the case. Your build sounds very similar to mine with the Tower 300. I have a 4080S Expert from MSi OC to 2900mhz/12800mhz, fans generally between 50-60% and temps on the most intensive games basically float around 60C. I keep the fans locked around that speed just for audible comfort, but could go a little higher without compromise. My case is vertical as well, with the 2 upper 140mm fans as exhaust since the gpu (vertically) disperses most of its heat upward, and the other exhaust (which is barely warm) functions more-so as an intake. My 360mm AIO is set to exhaust, and my bottom 120mm fan is set to intake. I really like the results of this case being compact, yet very accessible. Never have to pop the top and remove the fans like most people complain about as everything is accessible via the front, or feeding through the rear opening. It's a bummer the PNY doesn't work as efficient in this case as MSi.

Otherwise, I might find a way to mount the feet on the side of the case. With that being said, I now have to take out my aio and set it as exhaust since I know the vertical position is out of question
@ErockOnTech

So it seems this is a grey area. In part, it is a case issue because the best part of the case is the vertical mode. But some GPUs overheat. In part it is a GPU issue because not all GPUs are suffering in this position from what I understand. I definitely know PNY cards can't handle it.

@@ErockOnTech So the feet have little nubs that protrude out as "pins" into the case normally. These nubs actually fit perfectly in the grating on the side panels so laying it flat gives it a decent amount of lift and my GPU is much happier, however the case can slide a little on the feet, so I'll have to fit some rubber on the feet to hold the PC a bit better. Still runs toastier than my old full size PC, but hey it's a free fix and I get to enjoy the case sitting on its side completely fine. I did order the stand for the bottom panel and maybe I'll try out the stand for thermals at some point, but for now, it's time to enjoy the PC. I just purchased this case for my Birthday knowing that there were going to be issues with having it vertically mounted (My 3090 has a vapor chamber). Sure enough I was hitting 79c-81c and immediately stopped gaming. I did some finessing with my PC and actually added a custom fan to the intake on the GPU side using the IO port. This actually allowed more cool air into the GPU. In addition to the under-volting I'm happy to report that I was able to get my Idle GPU temps down to 32c and in most instances on load gaming at about 59c-70c tops (Battlefield 2042 really pushed the temps). In any regards, I'll take this as a win at this point. I still think this case is fantastic, but you do really need to be patient and prepare yourself to rework a few things to get those thermals down without your fans going off at 100%. I have an MSi 4080S Expert in this case, and it effortlessly maintains 60C at max load, (even during RT), fans manually set around 50% (basically inaudible), plently of room to increase. Seems that some cards design disagree with vertical orientation, sadly. When vertical, my card mainly disperses heat through the top (upward), and the lower fan functions as an intake (pulling air in and exhausting horizontally), given it barely gets warm. I have a 3 fan 360mm AIO as exhaust, 2 upper 140mm exhaust fans and a single 120mm intake on the bottom. My CPU is a 14700KF, slightly undervolted, and contrary to most criticism lately about Intel 13/14 gen CPU's, my CPU temps are lower than my GPU temps, with low fan speeds. Undervolt never rises above 1.3V at 5.6ghz on my 14700KF. No crashes whatsoever during gameplay or benchmarking. This is my first PC, so my technical prowess isn't as great as most, but my experience has been great. The issue that you guys are having seems to stem from the structure and orientation of the GPU itself, being suboptimal vertically. I'm not so sure adding additional fans will make much difference given the GPU is set to intake (unless it's not). The problem seems to lie how the GPU exhausts it's heat.

I have the same issue with my Red Devil 7900xtx. Love the tower 300 but noticed my GPU temps jumped higher after moving it to this case. I bought the stand to place the case sideways and my temps went back to normal. But after a couple of months I really don’t like having it sideways. I prefer it standing upright. I was about to trade my Red Devil for the Sapphire but if it’s going to be the same issue I’ll just keep my Red Devil. I might just go back to my previous case, even though I’d rather stick with the tower 300. On a side note, I did put a 140mm fan at the bottom. For those who want to put a fan at the bottom you’ll probably want to use cable extensions as they aren’t as rigid as the PSU’s motherboard cable.

I had the same issue with my 4080 super and the Thermaltake Tower 500. So given the fact the tower 500 decides to have all the exhaust out the top, essentially the card was upside down not allowing the heat to rise up the pipes but instead stay at the base of the heat sink hitting like 80c also. I was freaking out the first night this was happening, but after giving up and then going to work i got to thinking about heat rising etc and the card orientation and possible issues and decided to to try flipping the case on its side to make card horizontal, and it almost immediately went down to normal temps (61c-63c) after witnessing this i must say it was super relieving afterwards knowing it wasn't the card after all but the case and its design orientation of the graphics card. Needless to say the tower 500 case went bye bye and bought a Montech king 95 pro instead which has been smooth sailing ever since. The problem is the length of the cooler itself and being mounted vertical like this, its just to much for the vapor chamber to allow heat transfer and if the card was shorter in length it probably would work fine. I seriously don't think anything is wrong with your GPU it just has to do with physics.
@ErockOnTech

I appreciate this comment. Thank you for sharing your experience with me. I'm inclined to agree with you. The only thing that makes me think it could be the card are the stories from other people claiming their 4090 is totally fine in this orientation. It really is hard to know for sure. All I know is that in a normal orientation my card is fine. PNY says it should be fine in this new vertical orientation. But I'm starting to think they are saving face.
@MyJman37
2 ай бұрын
@@ErockOnTech Yeah Honestly i believe the very few people who claim there card to be fine in this orientation just happened to receive a card with possibly more liquid in the chamber allowing for better heat dissipation possibly allowing a bit more positive pressure in the pipes from the extra liquid as crazy as that may sound lol. Its this or they don't have a true vapor chamber design idk and could possibly be wrong and would need to gain some more knowledge about vapor chamber designs in general to be sure but basic physics would tell me having a chamber with a tiny bit of water in its base which then gets heated that has pipes coming off and each pipe being capped on the end that when heated you would want them pipes going up instead of downwards having to fight gravity causing them to more then likely become vapor locked since steam always rises and cannot be pushed downwards through crimped off tubing somewhat like holding a straw with your thumb on one end then placing it into a cup of water. I was also looking at it like putting a glass upside down with a piece of paper towel inside it first into a sink of water, it creates an air pocket which causes the cup and whatever is inside it to stay dry and empty of water. Same kind of apples with AIO coolers and there placement of the radiator being placed lower then the pump itself. All i can really say is that from my personal experience my Gigabyte 4080 super did this exact same thing and since switching have never had any issues since and even use a vertical mount with my new case except its technically horizontal where you see the fans facing you if that makes since.

And your other issue is you can't access your cablesI/O and yet you didn't think to just get short 6 inch extensions that can make those connections outside of the case? That takes care of most of your issues and y0ou only had to "fix" one thing. Your last issue was whether or not the lower fan is worth it, and in your case, it's no. Any cool air your system might be getting is being blocked my your pump/res combo. On top of that the Lian-Li fans, might be 120mm but the fan size is smaller than most 120mm fans to allow for the RGB effects. Go with a 140mm fan if possible at the bottom, move the pump/res combo and relocated if possible to a place where its not blocking off any fans. The dumbest mounting system ever made was a bracket for a pump/res to sit right on top of your fan. I have this case with a founders 4090 and never once has my temps gotten as bad as yours with a custom water cooling set up. Fans with more CFM are key to this case

@@IceWarrior341Lol it’s not the fans. Did you see the orientation test at 8:36? That proves 100% beyond any shadow of a doubt that it’s an orientation issue for my GPU. Not an airflow issue. Also, more specifically, I’m thinking this is a PNY GPU issue. I have other people with similar issues coming forward with PNY GPUs.

You obviously didn’t watch the whole video. My orientation test proves it’s NOT an air flow problem.

Lolol not an airflow issue. We even force fed cool air into it and ramped the hell out of the fans. Clearly you can see laying down with the exact same fans the temps are fine but soon as he stood the pc up the temps shot up. That’s while running a game. No airflow changes lol. Stevie wonder even saw the difference
