Can you hit a blot off the bar? Example: your opponent hit your blot and you have to start again. You roll a 3. in the 3 column (22), they have one token (a blot). Can you hit it and get on the board? What if all of their pieces are in their home, can you still hit their blot?

at 1:50 with the 4 "3's" could you move one piece 12? Is there any answer for this? at 5:04 with one on the bar, you gat 1 & 3, can you use 4 instead of 1 and/or 3, or have to split? If you use 4, it will not hitting opponent also.
@tomy6917
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can move one piece 4 times counting by 3, but, each time you are counting 3 you cannot count a space that has 2 or more of your opponent's pieces on it - you cannot go beyond there. At 5:04, in Backgammon, you treat each of the dice as individuals. So, if 1 and 3 is rolled on the dice, it is not a "4", it is "a 1 and a 3".

@tomy6917

the dice can bounce off the sides, they just cannot land crooked and be leaning onto a side wall. Both dice must land flat and be on the same side of the board, and, cannot come to rest on top of any of the pieces. Should this happen during an opening roll to start the game, the person who had the "bad die landing" must re-roll - both players do not re-roll.

When you're moving 1 checker with 2 dice it's not considered as just one move. You're making 2 moves, one move of 3 and one move of 4. It just so happens that you are moving the same piece. Usually that's not a problem, BUT, both moves must be legal in and of themselves. If either the 3 or the 4 move was legal (AND the bar was clear) then that would be a valid move. (If this is difficult to explain, note how he counts points when using 2 dice when moving the same piece. In the previous video, he rolled a 3 and a 2. He didn't count 1-2-3-4-5, he counted 1-2-3,1-2. That's because it's not 1 move of 5, it's 1 move of 3 and 1 move of 2.)

@tomy6917
4 жыл бұрын
Yes you could have Kurt, but, I think he was just showing as to why you had to re-enter from the bar using the 1. And you can move to the 4 point if the 1 & 3 points are not blocked. If the 1 point was also blocked, you cannot add the 1 and 3 to = 4 and re-enter from the bar onto the 4 point. If the 1 & 3 points were both blocked at that time you would have lost your turn & your opponent would now roll his dice.

@tomy6917

You must treat each of the dice numbers as individual numbers. If you roll a "4 and a 3" it is not a "7". It would be treated as being a "4 and a 3". At the 4:10 time mark, there are 2 white checkers on the bar and a 4 & 3 is rolled on the dice. The number 4 point is open in the brown checkers "home" and 1 white checker can leave the bar and go to the 4 point. There is still a white checker remaining on the bar and only a 3 remains to be played from the dice roll. However, brown has the 3 point in his "home" blocked since there are 2 brown checkers on his 3 point. So, the remaining white checker cannot leave the bar - white's turn now ends. The 1st white checker cannot be moved "7" (4 & 3 on dice) because the 2nd white checker could not leave the bar so white must end his moving. In order to use both of your dice, you cannot have anyone left on the bar.

You have done one hell of a job explaining this to me. I won't go overboard and study it like i have the last two years of chess, but i am dying to play it.

Joel, take a look at all 9 of the posted videos, again. I just found them and I've made comments to add info that was not stated & different moves than what was shown. I love this game & just passing along my experience to any beginners. :)

If you hit with 3, dices 3 - 2, can you still move the same checker that hit 2 more points and (or not) hit a second time? or once a checker has hit it has to remain there and wait for your next turn to move it? (great tutorial, I got my first ever backgamon set today)

You can hit any opponent's checker as long as it is sitting alone. You could hit 2 of your opponent's checkers with your same checker as long each of your opponent's checkers are sitting alone on the point they occupy on the board.

When the white checkers were on the bar, would you have been able to add the dice numbers and move the spaces risking the dice? Moving seven spaces instead of four in the example

At 5:06 in the video, you roll a 3 and a 1. You use the 1on one of the dice to get your checker off the bar and put it on your 24 point (your opponent's 1 point) then say that you can continue playing a normal game, but you picked up both dice without using the 3 on the other die.

He was only showing which point the checker on the bar could move to and why the 3 could not be used to enter the board from the bar. After using the "1" to leave the bar, then any checker could now use the remaining "3" on the dice.

Can you play the re-enter checker by four moves right there, or you supposed to play 3 or 1 move only? 4:50
@tomy6917

Yes, for this "1 & 3" dice roll, the white checker after leaving the bar with the "1" could have then been moved 3 more or any other white checker could be moved with the "3". He was just showing why you could not use the "3" to leave the bar, but, you could use the "1" to leave the bar.

Can you divide up a move, as in if you roll a two and a five, so you move one chip three spaces and then move another chip four spaces ?
@embelkowitz

Rivers_of_Blood Marshal I don’t think you can. You can move one chip 2 and another 5. Or one chip 7
@embelkowitz

The chip that moves 7 would be considered a move of 5 and a move of 2 or the other way

cant you get off the bar if you roll more than six if i have all my home points covered?
@tomy6917
5 жыл бұрын
No you can't. You have to treat each of your dice as a single number 1 through 6. So, if the board is "closed" having all home points blocked, points 1 through 6 are closed and a piece on the bar cannot re-enter.

What is the numbered dice used for??

It's called the "Doubling Cube" or just "Cube". It will double the win or loss for a game being played. Lets say I think I'm going to win, I will turn "The Cube" to show a 2 and offer it to you. If you accept, if I win the game, I get 2 credits, if I lose, you get 2 credits. If you were to say no to my Cube offer, the game would end right there and I win. But, lets say you had accepted my Cube for 2 & we keep playing but now it look likes you are going to win, you turn "The Cube" to show a 4 and offer it back to me - now the win or loss will be 4 times more. If I say no, you win 2 credits because you had already accepted "The Cube" from me when I had 1st offered you "doubles" earlier in the game. So, you can keep offering "The Cube" back & forth and go higher & higher. Even though "The Cube" only shows 64 being its highest number, you can continue on higher with the next "turning of The Cube" to 128, then 256, 512 etc etc. But, regular Backgammon is played without using "The Cube". It's mainly used in Backgammon Tournaments or when playing for money bets.

You can actually stack all 15 of your checkers on to the same point (line).
