When learning should I start off with a single crochet stitch

Hi :) It really depends on what you want to make - when I first started crocheting I made a scarf using double crochet. If you are making a smaller sized project like a dishcloth then single crochet would work perfectly - it is a short stitch so if you are trying to make a larger first project it would take a long time to do in single crochet stitches. Single crochet is the least complicated stitch and because we only chain 1 at the end of the row it makes working and counting your stitches easier. With taller stitches there are more turning chains and sometimes when we are new to crochet we can miss those and it makes the project width change as we work. If you do decide to work with a taller stitch like double crochet I recommend putting a stitch marker in the turning chain so you know it is there at the end of the row and that you need to make a stitch into it. Hope this helps, Rhondda
