I know this is a radically different approach to learning belly dance. Most others teach either lots of moves quickly or they teach a choreography. In the "Jensuya" approach, I have been inspired by famous cellist Yo-yo Ma who, when he teaches, believes in spending weeks on just "Middle C." OK, so we have 3 moves here! Practice, relax into the moves, FEEL yourself becoming more graceful as you "become" the rhythm. I love these online mini lessons. Helps so much while stuck at home. Also i feel like even after 1 lesson my dody is toning. Which is great after 8 kids and years of change. Time to find my body again.

Shimmying takes A LOT of practice. Start very, very slowly (you won't even be shimmying yet) so you can get your body to understand and feel how to move, then speed up just a litttle at a time. I love those drills. I feel I need to learn and settle the basics first before I can do a choreography. I don't need the counting but it is definitely beneficial to repeat the moves over and over again, working in keeping the posture and learning to smile while the abs and legs are burning :)

Merhaba @SAKINA RAFFY! It is awesome to be sharing beloved belly dance between France and USA. 🥰 I have been dancing since 2002 when I was 38 years old. Here is a video that you might like regarding what age to start belly dancing: bit.ly/JBDLateStart On average I practice at least 1 hour a day and more if my body and my schedule allow. In the first 10 years of belly dancing, I practiced 2 to 3 hours a day. At my "advanced" age, 😉 I listen to my body and usually stop dancing before I really want to!

Thank you, @clare5 one! I so often got frustrated in my early years of learning to belly dance because the instructions were so vague from so many of the teachers I had. They couldn't seem to explain how our bodies should actually to be moving-"just feel it," they'd say. The frustration of that is a major reason I stopped taking lessons, and focussed on piecing together what I'd learned-thank you, Teachers ❤️ -with my own problem-solving engineering background. I just knew that there had to be a way to learn AND teach technique in a more effective way. Over the years of practicing and performing and the sheer joy of figuring out how to help others learn the mechanics and timing of belly dance, I've been developing a method that I hope will help others find the joy in dance without the frustration. Thank you for letting me know! 🥰
