Great video - one thing, early on where you set the processing threads to 24, I think you say that’s how many cores you have - a core can run multiple threads and also I’m not sure that means it will run one thread per core, which would be efficient. It might run 24 threads on one core.

@5:00 (Proxy Clips): If enabling Proxy Clips is so important, then why is it there? In other words, why doesn't the program have it hard-coded to just run with the equivalent of it being enabled? Why would the developers distribute their program with it in a slow mode (Proxy Clips disabled), and only run at speed for folks that happen to enable that feature? If having Proxy Clips enabled is a 100% win/win, then why would anyone leave it disabled, and why would the developers make a "run slow" (via disabling Proxy Clips) option available? Is enabling Proxy Clips at the cost of some other item? There must be a reason that someone would choose to leave Proxy Clips disabled? What would such a reason be? Thank you.
@PracticaProphetica
4 жыл бұрын
Proxy clips renders a lower resolution of the video for use on the timeline. Then when you render, it uses the original video. You would not need to use Proxy clips if your computer is quite fast, or if your video is lower bitrate/resolution. I don't have a lot of experience with this, but I'm guessing 720p video with a multi-core processor should be fine without proxy clips. One reason it wouldn't be turned on by default is that it takes up more disk space. Another reason why the user might not want proxy clips on is if they are doing some critical editing that requires for them to see the full video, to get the proper visual feedback about the editing. So proxy clips are not something everyone would want on, all the time. That's why it's an option.

@NoEgg4u

@@jackb1803 "If you have a fast PC then you don't have to bother with proxy clips. Otherwise, it helps immensely on my old laptop." That explains a condition for turning on Proxy Clips. Please name a condition where it would be more advantageous for a user to leave Proxy Clips disabled. You wrote that you do not need Proxy Clips enabled, if you have a fast PC. So on a fast PC, enabling Proxy Clips slows it down? Kdenlive has a Proxy Clips option: "On" or "Off". I would like to know when leaving it "Off" is more beneficial than leaving it "On". If there is no scenario where leaving Proxy Clips "Off" helps, then what is the point having an option to turn it off?

One drawback of KDEN Live, @Distrotube, is that when you render, if you choose the default, you may have just clobbered the original video. Because you import the original video as a reference. When that video is rendered TO, if that's a referenced video, you are overwriting the video that's used in the production. So, make sure you make a new backup with a new title every time! Even make a second backup in another folder of backups.

Yes, at 10:41 I discovered that the scissors isn't to "cut" a clip out as in delete or remove it as in many programs, but to split or slice a clip, useful to know! So many programs have same words for the different things it's maddening. Yes, at 12:33 you read my mind make it a razor or butcher knife symbol. Waiting to find out how to actually cut or remove a part of the clip that's been "cut" into sections that are no longer wanted in the project (so i can use short "cuts"/clips from a long video to a much shorter clips/video using only specific portions (clips/cuts/slices?sheesh). Next, need help creating a Marker, it's hidden somewhere. It's easy to make a "guide" (whatever that is) but I need a Marker which is common in many programs, not a Guide. Now looking up how to remove in and out points. Thanks your video is a great start to learn this program.
