I definitely made the mistake of taking on my whole apartment when I started to declutter 😁It's taking me longer than I anticipated to get rid of all of the stuff to the appropriate places, and the lingering piles are stressful at times. I'm nearly there, though, and only have two steps left to get rid of the first major wave of decluttered items, and it feels amazing!! I just keep my end goal in mind, and it keeps me plenty motivated 😍

Love this video! It's so nice to hear from a young person that you are grateful for what you have and don't have the need to keep shopping. Most people shop to fill a void. They're happy for a day until they need their next fix. If we are lucky and blessed we need to realize it. If we can help others with things we don't need, we can donate to our local charities or give to friends and family that may need help. North Americans, in particular shop as though it were a hobby. We need to fill our spare time with proper hobbies, socializing, helping others, volunteering, etc. Shopping should not be something we do out of boredom. Thank you so much for your wisdom. I am starting to make a start in decluttering my home. I have been watching as many videos as possible to motivate myself and it is definitely working. Thanks again!

Great video. Getting ready to downsize from a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house with garage, attic, basement, rec room, etc. to a small 2 bedroom 1 bath with no garage, no basement, no attic. Kids moved out and realized all this stuff is not only not making me happy but keeping me from doing the things that do make me happy. As excited as I am letting things go has been difficult. I got rid of at least half, but planning on getting rid of more as I unpack. Totally agree mental aspect is really important.

I chose the minimalist ideal a short time ago, including getting rid of old clothes and lots of things we just moved over and over again before we bought our home. We hit even the attic, ugh that took weeks. It was really awesome and I felt like I had taken off a heavy back pack and could breathe for the first time LOL I love thinking more about also the foods I chose to eat and the precious time the Lord has given me, what is really important over all. thank you for your tips and vids! The only things I will never get rid of is every one of my electronic devices, (i am an addict) and if someone was to see my extra hard drives they would call me a hoarder. Laugh! But at least that all sits on a small space on my desk ;) Good Luck to everyone!

Decluttering in one go is the best you can do. You have no trouble staying motivated over a long period of time and immediate results. Don't declutter a little at a time! Declutter by category like Marie Kondo suggests if you get overwhelmed.

@elizabethgiovengo8864
7 жыл бұрын
Ahh the ever clutter BUGS. I have two of those, four cats, 2 hamsters, and a dog as well. They told me straight up, not my stuff! So, I got plastic boxes, I put all the clothes, then the stuffed animals and then the rest one day at time, in pile on the bed. I encouraged my 13 year old to think of the children at my bff's school whom would love anything he had to share that he quickly grew out of, or any toys that he no longer wanted to play with, and believe it or not, he came out of his room with everything that didn't fit all nice folded and some toys too! Those kids at her school are orphans and live in homes for boys or girls, they greatly appreciate gently used items and he learned to give, I am very proud of him. Now as for my piggy hoarder of a husband, BIG TIP.. I went to Sams Club, I bought him a shelf with all these multi bins it is even on wheels, I told him if you want it, I DON't want to have to dust and clean it, this garage is your kingdom and your man cave is your home, I gave him a glass enclosed 80$ Walmart bookcase in his man cave, which was very much needed as he works from home, imagine the clutter!! UGH. Surprised I was that he actually likes both items and vacuumed his man cave and dusted, I was gleaming and as a treat we all went out to dinner to celebrate! Make it fun, buy a funky shelf try an odd organizer, my son once had an old small double tool box and we made a old dresser into a gas tank because he wanted a garage theme hotwheels room. I am NOT saying I don't still have to tidy after them, I am saying it way easier WIN WIN...Blessings to you!
@TheGirlGoneGreen

Going off my other comment. Education. I know 3-year-olds who know when the "clean up" song comes on it's time to help out. It's a hard process and of course nothing will happen overnight but try positive reinforcement with your children and hopefully, they will slowly adopt those habits. The biggest advice I can give you is to try to be content with how things are. I'm not saying don't clean or try to strive for the decluttered life you want. I live with someone who is not as clean as me and at first It drove me insane. We have accumulated so many unnecessary things, but now I've learned to accept it and move on. Not let my energy be drained by this stress. That being said, I keep my place really clean and constantly address the issue but it no longer makes me freak out. Hope this helps!💚

love the concept, and i do what i can already (netflix instead of cable, cup instead of pads, dishcloth instead of sponges, diy shampoo, re purposing...) my big issue is - alot of what takes up space is my artsy stuff - yarn, beads, jewelry findings,tools etc that i pretty much have to keep
@TheGirlGoneGreen

Is art your career or a passion project? I always recommend people still sort through it. Sometimes you have certain items you keep for one day in the future but realistically you won't end up using it. If they are tools that help you do what you love, it's okay to hold on to things.

definitly more of a passion/hobby than anything. my primary medium being knitting - so i've got this small stash of good yarn that has a specific project in mind, and a stash of crappy acrylic to use on things that wont be worn... might go through my buttons and such again, do a "destash" sale on my fb groups :P

When I began my minimalist journey I researched books on the topic. One book that was highly recommended, that I purchased, and now highly recommend as well I "The Joy of Less: A minimalist living guide" by Francine Jay. It covers minimalist philosophy; streamlining tips; then a specific "room-to-room" guide. I read the entire book first, have read parts of it repeatedly, and refer to the room guide when I'm paring down.

Lovely video! The only thing I disagree on is to avoid all temptations to shop.. I think it is more beneficial for someone (and harder to do) to deal with every temptation to shop and to walk by shops and be strong mentally (you just don't need all the stuff because it will not make you happy). Avoiding something tends to make the thing you're avoiding more tempting instead of less. Not meant to be a critique, I really enjoy your videos!! :)

Are you in an apartment or town home? It was really hard all the way around when my son was young and my husband still had his pet rock collection from when he was young, I had to encourage him to think about what he really needed, I went out and got him a Lowes card and an Academy card. I asked him if he could donate or throw away a few items maybe he could buy something he really wanted, and he did, he got the Dewalt drills he always wanted and I don't have to out up with his rock and bottle cap collection. He is really a keeper of all things, he has a room space of his own now, before he only had a corner in the main bedroom of our apartment. Men love thinking they have their own little space. When you have young children everything you do shifts to them, rightfully so, I also have a 34 year old daughter. One day he opened up how he had always felt the kids took over the house and nothing seemed normal for him anymore. I had never known or thought about even a desk area that was just his. we love them, and all the mess they come with, try to talk to him and see if there is something he could bring in that he needs or wants in exchange for some that can gooooo! I know your pain girl!

Toddlers are always difficult! The best way I have found with kids is to try to keep them in a designated play area and only have a few toys (less to pick up). Also, avoid toys that are messy or have too many pieces. As for your husband, relationships are always complicated. Consider trying to educate him on the benefits of having less. I recommend watching Minimalism: Ad documentary about the important things with him.

I'd consider establishing a buying habit/ or taking habit. I have a set of questions I ask myself: Do I need this? Is it worth it? Where will this be in 10 months? Do I LOVE it?

I really wonder how many minimalist wannabes will end up getting rid of way too much and buying all new stuff six months down the road. This could be a great movement or a catastrophic one if the focus is just on the number of objects owned. If you have space for it in the storage room, keep it and use it to replace what gets broken, missed or used up.

Yes! I am going to be filming a room tour this week and then hopefully I'll have a full apartment tour next month. We are still refinishing a dining table. So once that is all set, we will have one up!

I love your videos! I have decluttered to the point that I am satisfied. Right now, I am working on rebuilding my wardrobe, and I have noticed temptations while shopping for things on my list. It is so easy to get distracted some times. The good thing is that online purchases take me weeks to commit to usually, so I can weed out what is excess or not from my original intention. I do have a minimalist blog if you would like to visit it! www.awelderswife.com I share lots of tips as well as inspiration from others. I believe if you find something that inspires you, you should share it, because others may get inspired as well! [You have actually been featured in a couple!] Have a blessed day!

Kids are a big source of things. Try teaching them the 1 in 1 out method. If they get a new toy, they have to give one of their toys to a child in need.

maybe this is gonna help you, or not... the only thing ill give to people who start a video with "subscribe , thumbs up etc" is a thumb down or skip to next person , is annoying AF , put it in the end of the video or just add a thing on ur vid saying subscribe i dont know , people will subscribe if they want to without you telling them , ( you= all youtubers who do this) ...... normally i wouldn't comment about this , you just happened to be the 4th or so video i get to click on and see this long annoying intro ....Good luck
