I feel the same way. I'm not a fan of being hamstrung to increase difficulty. It was always a hard game if you didn't grind, and i'm not a fan of the grinding being less meaningful than it use to be. Why was there a problem with over leveling? Didn't bother me very much.

@@jasonthegreat7999 It was an issue because the Tactics game didn't have tactics anymore. You can still over level a bit, and can still dominate the game with good play, but it always felt a bit silly to hear about these scarier teams... Then show up and one shot them with maxed ranks and post game gear. You can do far more with the new systems than just charge in with bigger numbers. That's what's awesome to me, anyways.

@@CoffeePotato My point is you could play it as you liked, there was no limits. No one made you play hard mode or over level, pick chaotic or lawful, roll in with any class or composition. That was all up to you. It was the freedom to make this game how I wanted that made it really fun. Ogre Battle has that similar style where you could over level and end up being the tyrant that, at least for me, really opened up the game when most games at the time were pretty much linear. All that said, the core of the game is still there, and its still a great game. I just wish it was an option.

As a noob, your idea of a beginner guide is funny, no offense. I’m just trying to get through chapter 1 still … What I’m struggling with is none of my units learning finishing moves. Are they not learned in chapter 1? I’ve restarted once, realizing I change my weapons too often. So at Quadriga fortress now, with people with like level 7 on short swords, but no finishing moves yet, having the same starting weapon since the beginning.
@Jasonwfd
Жыл бұрын
You learn Finishing Moves every 10 weapon levels, up to 4 at level 40. Being that your weapon level is capped at your unit level, you won't get Finishers until you hit level 10. Yes, the Qadriga fort fight in Chapter 1 is tougher than the other fights. You don't need finishers to do it, it's optional, and you can progress the story a bit to level up and come back later (which it sounds like you've already done). Don't worry, you got this!

Hey, thanks for all of the videos on this amazing game! Quick question from a beginner: is it normal for all of the debuffing spells (e.g. Paralytic Wave, Poison Gas, etc.) to have low hit percentages in the early game, while missile spells are almost guaranteed to hit? If so, how can someone mitigate this problem?
@CoffeePotato
Жыл бұрын
This is normal. Essentially it's "do you want the near guaranteed damage now, or do you want the other effect that could change things for several rounds?" Most debuffs are worth the effort, due to the sheer amount of them you can throw out. Poison especially can miss 3 times and still be worth it.

Hi there. Want to ask. I have hanging gardens for my story. And i didnt finish it yet. But want to ask how can you craft damascus +1 ? I dont even find how to craft them (damascus series)
@CoffeePotato
Жыл бұрын
You can, but you need more crafting recipes to do that. Fun note, all Damascus weapons have a stun chance, because they're made of stunning metal. They were apparently very proud of that pun. Anyhow, you read the Warren Report entries, there will be a story about the forts around the island being besieged. Visit them and clear them out. Then read the Report again, this time there's a story about the Apocrypha. It's a side quest of sorts for the first steps towards the best damage dealing spells of the game, and a unique class. Visit the castle at the center left of the map, and Mreuvra will ask if you can be trusted with superweapons. Tell him it's fine, and the forts will now become dungeon zones. Clearing each one gives 3 new crafting books and a spell. They also have some dang pretty maps. You can go back later for unique drops and better versions of the spells, but that's how you get the basic crafting upgrades for the end game. If you want more, there's also maybe a dozen more in POTD that seem to be dropped randomly, they used to be set drops, but we don't know much beyond "I got 10 crafting books by floor 17 what on earth is going on". Those are the advanced ones, though, and you may not have the means to do much with them just yet.

I swear i have never seen them cast any, i even tried giving my wizard only debuff spells and setting him to AI as a test and all he did was constantly skip turns. Could this be a bug in the AI coding? Edit: After some more playtesting it seems that they also can't use Boon of Swiftness and other similar spells, i really think there's an issue with the AI programming if they neglect debuff and buff spells etc. Considering you have way more experience with the game so far is there any knowledge you have that confirms or denies this assumption of mine that the AI can't use buff or debuff spells?
@CoffeePotato

I've seen them use them normally, but I think they prioritize focus fire more this time. Stun was nerfed a bit, so you don't see it come up as much (it's scary when a Cyclops starts spamming it), but they used them a lot in PSP due to bouncing off of armor so often. We're seeing more of a SNES magic artillery situation here.

By the way have you ever seen the AI use status effect spells? I ask this because none of my mages (when set to AI) are using things like poison cloud and paralytic wave. Even my healers, when they have nothing to heal, are not using boon of swiftness.

@@CoffeePotato I actually did try that and they unironically closed into melee range even when I set them to ranged attacker. I couldn't figure out a way to make them cast and the enemies wouldn't cast any on me either. I wonder if it's just my copy or something.

I’ve went back to the one vision mod unfortunately. Luckily I was able to play my brothers copy before spending $50 on the remake. For every step forward they seemed to take several steps back One vision imo will remain the definitive way to play

@@CoffeePotato can’t get over training battles is biggest issue. Call me old fashioned but I loved random battles and with new and improved AI I’m just imagining how fun and challenging they would’ve been remade. No recruiting, no gear drops no money and most of all, all those fun maps on the world map are now one and dones in favor of repeating town training maps with no gear, no money and no recruiting. Yes we can farm dungeons later but it still kills a huuuuge chunk of the world map variety. Such an odd and disappointing decision, at least they could’ve made it optional where the random battles don’t automatically trigger but you can click what map tile you want and have a randomly generated battle, unless random battles do eventually happen in later chapters? Limiting spells and skills to 4 is also just makes no sense. Removing options is never a good thing, I know they combined a lot of skills and spells or relegated them to gear but not all of them will work that way and your build will still be limited. We don’t need 8 finishers, at least give us 6 skill and spell slots or something - I like my variety and more options to carry low and higher tier spells and abilities The rouge was my favorite class to make denam and I’ll stand by removing him was a absolute terrible decision I’ve noticed finisher spam is a thing now even early game which I’ve seen a bunch already. Tbh the game plays a loooot easier than the psp version. My brother who is new to tactics games is having no issues at all while I remember having quite the fun challenge on the psp game more often than not. Of course these are just some of the (main) issues I have. I mean it’s not all bad there’s definitely some good but there’s a lot that makes me not wanna continue playing

1:05 Do you think the prevailing element mechanics make running a mono-element team viable for a first playthrough, or do you recommend just building a diverse team? I’m struggling to understand the mechanics. From what I’ve read (which seems wrong), prevailing element has two components: one that carries between fights and makes enemies strong against your element more common, and one that only affects the current battle and gives already-resisted moves a further negative multiplier. It seems like these two combined would actually make mono-element teams worse, which is why I assume I’m completely misunderstanding.
@CoffeePotato

Prevailing Element can help, but it's more a momentum thing. Some diversity is helpful, but bear in mind finishers can make up for personal diversity through finisher element switches, and debuffs like Breach or Fear can have a stronger effect. Basically each "advantage" can be stacked up to multiply whatever number they were bringing to bear, though armor will have a say in all that. Generally it's an advantage like this: Breach: Physical 50% Enfeeble: Magic 20% (might be wrong on that, but it helps) Element: Physical 30%, Magic 10%, Physical becomes 40% if matching element weapon, and if the weapon's element is different, it'll use that number in place of the unit, provided it's super effective. Instill: 20% resistance to that element, 25% flat damage bonus Averse: 15% from that element Fear: All thresholds of unit reduced by 15% or so. TLDR, if you don't have the element advantage, check your finishers to become that element. Breach and Enfeeble help, Fear Helps, the others can help too. Prevailing intensifies these breakthroughs, but won't create them.

Nice video. Good Work. I've played hundreds of hours on both PS1 and PSP versions of this game, but i've felt that the classes are unbalanced, some kinda of useless and some had an other class that made it obsolete. Is this still going on or you can make every class work?
@CoffeePotato
Жыл бұрын
Technically, even the PSP version surprised me with how much viability you could materialize in a pvp situation (see Multiplayer Tier List), but this one has nailed the balance so far. I deliberately hired a random TK, gave him a Mace and suck moves as a joke.... And he became a suppression sniper, of all things. Just sniping a drain MP at +4 range while his armour makes him a less tempting target at that range. You can do a ton of weird builds far easier this time.

Hardly required. It's best described as "Use what you like, there will always be a way". Elemental finishers will hit harder vs their intended targets, but you don't need to rely on them, they're a circumstantial, handy way to handle certain things. In this case, it's an Earth based boss, so this Wind finisher will do the job. I could also just rush him with heavy hitters, break his defenses into pelting with arrows, poison, maybe just spam overhead spells, maybe charm his own team against him...maybe if feeling particularly vile, we could just trap him in a box of Rampart Shadows, and Pincer shield bash the poor guy to death. There's a million and one mechanics, but for newbies, it's easiest to say "Yellow do big number vs Green right here."

does the element advantage applys only in magic attacks? or ir a unit is water and attacks a fire unit it will make more damage even if it’s a physical attack ?
@CoffeePotato
Жыл бұрын
Elements always apply, just in different ways. Standard is 30% bonus for physical, 10% for magical. Matching your element to your attack gives 10% for physical, or 30% for magical. Finishers on weakness give the full 30%, and using a different element weapon adds it's element if it's hitting on a weakness, this applies for physical and magical.

Probably a dumb question, but does atk vs def stats count for spell damage or is it just int / mind vs res / mind ? My first guess was that it doesn't use atk/def because most of the atk stat comes from the weapon and mage staves have close to 0 atk, but then i realized that lowering enemies defense with fear/breach does increase spell damage on them quite a lot. There must be something I don't understand

There is no such thing like mastered class like fft. Your class automatically learn skill as you level up. And the pool of skill automatically changed to that class when change class. Level cap raised as you progress. Well i guess if you can call it master, then lvl 50 is the master per unit.
