Very informative, funny I have been a trout fisherman my whole life but it my home state of Utah it is much easier to fish than in my place of residence now California. The lakes are much more fished and have literally watched trout state at my bait for 6 hours while I tried everything I could think of to catch them. Only thing I could think of is the fact that there were 40 other fisherman in the same cove. But your videos have given me more to think about and maybe some different tactics. Thanks.

IF, I have 3 rods that I use for trout fishing. One is a 5" Ultra Light Spinning Rod, Moderate Action, with 4# (.20mm) Berkley Tirlene XL Mono in Fluorescent Clear/Blue, the second is a 6'6" Medium Light Spinning Rod, Fast Action with 10# (4# Diameter/.20mm ) Berkley FireLine Fused Crystal (Supposedly a Translucent Superline), and my third rod is a 5'6" Light Spinning Rod, Moderate/Moderate Fast Action, that I have yet to spool. I mainly fish for trout in small streams/creeks and stocked ponds, and occasionally a lake, from the bank. Most of the water I fish for trout in has decent visibility, sometimes murky. I have watched multiple videos and read multiple articles on different types of lines for trout fishing and different styles of trout fishing. Typically, I fish for trout with either PowerBait, PowerWorms, Trout Magnets, Salmon Eggs, Joe's Flies Trout Spinners, and Live Bait (Night-crawlers, Butter Worms, Mill Worms). In the past couple years, I have only ever used Mono for any type of fishing, but I want to improve my fishing skills so I have been doing more research in preparation for this season. In some videos and articles on trout fishing I have seen people using Braided line for trout. I know Braided line is easier to see that Mono & Fluoro, but it is also thinner diameter. I currently have 6# (2# Diameter/.15mm) Suffix Performance Fuse in Smoke Blue, 4# (.20mm) SpiderWire EZ Fluoro in Clear, and 4# Berkley Trilene XL Mono in Fluorescent Clear/Blue that I could put onto my 5'6" Light Spinning Rod, Moderate/Moderate Fast Action, to use for trout. My questions for you are; (1) - Would you recommend spooling my 5'6" Light Spinning Rod, Moderate/Moderate Fast Action, with Braid, Fluoro, or Mono for trout fishing, given the above description? (2) - Should I keep the 10# (4# Diameter/.20mm) Berkley FireLine Fused Crystal on my 6'"6 Medium Light Spinning Rod, Fast Action? If not, what type of line would you recommend switching it to? Again, I have yet to use anything but Mono for trout in the past, but I have used Superlines for other species.

You can use braid on all of them. However make sure that you run at least a 15 to 20 foot leader. Using the braid as a backing for ultralights gives you a way better hookup. I would not use anything bigger than 10 to 15 pound braid. It has the same diameter as 2 to 4 lb mono

I'm not ruling out 8LB test or knocking you. If you have a reel with a rough drag i would consider larger line than 2LB- 4LB also in fast water ways with a lure or fishing in heavy brush areas. Bait that needs to float , you must have light line. for a pole use a pole that reflects the line size for maximum fun and a reel size 750- 1000 size..

Its more fun to learn as you fish and not sit and watch someone just talk about it and talk so fast you have to watch over and over or stop rewind and watch again to catch what was said. Stop trying to talk about so much little details and start having fun and more people will watch you and pay more attention to you. I have been fishing for 25 years now but it is always refreshing to see other peoples perspectives on fishing for different fish species I personally use braided line and a 3 foot fluorocarbon leader for everything now and I used to use a spinning reel but now I use a baitcasting reel and the reason I switched to a baitcasting reel is because baitcasting reels seem to be more accurate at casting. I'm not bashing spinning gear at all because spinning gear are more versatile for all around use whereas baitcasting reels are more specialized and geared towards situations where you need precision and accuracy so each set up is good for different reasons and different purposes.

Generally, you're right. What he is getting at is that at the bottom of the lake or pond (colder water) there is often lots of decomposing plant matter, this is what takes up a lot of oxygen and can drive the fish up to the mid layers. But yes, colder water holds more dissolved oxygen and living plants do produce it.

I'm camping later today and because of the drought in California, the hatcheries haven't been active since 2012. Fishing was one of many activities I loved and was extremely good at for my age. Now that it's been years since the hatcheries were last activated, I need to get back into it with more than memory at this point. Going 6 years without fishing and being 10 when you stopped makes things hard today.
