Obviously whoever tuned this clock up knows what they are doing. Ian and Sonia a fantastic piece and a wonderful restore. Cheers!

Nowadays these clocks are electronically imitated by some quartz clocks both hour strike and tune played by music-box because such quartz clocks contains electronically programmed circuit board of sound chips connected to speaker.

Stop being so dramatic they still make real mechanical cuckoo clocks

@@blue_hedgehog_gaming_clock9580 Yes they do, pretty much all mechanical clocks still use mechanical music boxes. There is even a very expensive one that use a 72 note.

Very rare to find for sale. Substantial brass plate movement, which I prefer, just to complete robustness. Why doesn't the hammer for gong rise and fall?
@CarltonClocks

The hammer is rising and falling, just not hitting the gong because the back door is open.

Of course, silly me. I am particularly impressed that it's a brass movement, not wooden - for rigidity and a fabulous piece.

I have a 4-tune, 1-day, wall, weight-driven one and the music and cuckoo call are too fast. Originally, the music was much slower when I bought it and suspect usual wear. On one tune it sticks. Also, there's a buzzing noise, particularly on one tune and was told why that was, so can you deal with this part too? The hands/arbor needs tightening. Mine is 'a keeper' as I paid too much for it, but love it. I'd be glad of feedback. I appreciate you're away down South, but I'd be prepared to travel to get it done properly. What is likely restoration cost please?

I dunno. Old cuckoo clock music boxes are normally just the comb and cylinder alone unless if it's an entire mechanism like in a Beha. It would be a problem with the clock mechanism itself most likely. My Gebruder Kuner/George Keuhl quail cuckoo's repair cost was £600, mostly for cosmetic repairs(as the case was absolutely carnaged when I got it) and also because I accidentally snapped off the quail pirch rod against the bellow when I took the mechanism out of the case. Leach wanted to charge my dad more lololol
@gaiuscoleman8815

@@CBF1 Yes, I suspect wear. £600 is a LOT for repair/restoration, but so many cases and ornamentation are damaged on these clocks. It would be good to know who your repairers and restorers are, specifically for Black Forest clocks in the UK. The Americans have their own experts, including one guy who makes real bone hands.

@@gaiuscoleman8815 Mark (M.J.) Leach restored my Keuhl/Kuner quail cuckoo. The other clocks were fixed up by a private retired restorer who worked on my clocks from 2018 until 2020. He's TOTALLY retired now lol. Great to hear that bone hands are still being made, I think I might've seen that bloke's ebay listings for new bone Gordian-Hettich-Sohne and Beha hands.

@@CBF1 Is Mark Leach from UK? Pity one has given up, but that's what's happening all-around. RESTORERS are hard to find. Overhaulers/repairers still reasonably plentiful. Glad to have BHI's website whereby you can look up your own area to see who is near you to do repairs. For restoration, don't forget West Dean College! They're more into the restoration side of clock cases, furniture, etc.

nah, this is a medium size music box, i’m buying one (hopefully) that has nearly three times the length, that doesn’t mean the longer ones sound better, but these sized ones are more defined, they have great sound, but in the end there are much bigger, if one were to recreate that music box today that’s about $75,000, a large one over $100,000

@@tuileriesantiques9057 Reuge make big sized music boxes such as the 144 tooth mechanism... the 4-song 144 tooth mechanism costs £4000 alone except Reuge do not sell mechanisms alone any more. But if you're talking about something like an Overture music box that would cost a hell of a lot to make. The prices to create things are absolutely retarded and so are modern times because such times made music boxes so expensive.
