The atmosphere that they put into the music and into their videos goes above and beyond almost anybody else.

I Dont really know where you guys come from, but i will catch your channel if you react to a German Metal Band called Eisregen( Icerain). A few Albums from them where censored and not allowed to play in Germany and still are not allowed to play. A Song called " Futter für die Schweine" ( Food for the Pigs) is about shredding humans for pigs to eat or "Krebskolonie" (CancerKolonie) about a Colony of infected and their kind of view. If you decide to i would love to translate it to you guys. By the way here it is like so censored you only are able to hear the complete album without any notations about where which song started. kzitem.info/news/bejne/w4Kr0KSAa3Zqen4 (Krebskolonie started at 13:50) (Futter für die Schweine Started at 43:07) only link available :-o

Well... As i've seen people before me say, and I agree from my own perspective... This is the final act of the album. This is the end. He's summoning Satan, personified as the sun, to crash into the earth, and destroy it. "Akephalos, Shine thru me! Come forth in War! Come forth in Peace! Bring down the Sun, extinguish all the Stars! Let me remain in splendor ov thy light!" Basically, he's saying destroy everything, but let me live so that I can enjoy it haha. He goes on to speak of other ways to have this happen :D. It's basically a ritual summoning of Satan. In terms of video, again with the help of others... The beginning shots are of Odin, dying, as symbolized by the raven leaving him. Prometheus being strung up, and having his insides eaten by carrion, as punishment from Zeus. And then i'd guess some sort of tribal African ritual, maybe one involving Satanism. The liquid, or the white that the child seems to be spitting out, may or may not be his soul? And then the black is meant to be his new, maybe evil soul, or maybe the blackness is in representation of Satan. So God leaves his body, and Satan enters.

Prometheus is often considered to be Lucifer because he would bring the knowledge to human beings... so he has been banned and punished for that...

The ritual with the boy would seem to be a purification ritual, the white candles inserted in the mouth resulting in vomiting is a pretty clear. Also based on the lyrics, which describe entities or concepts arising without source (a day without dawn, a ray without sun, the bornless one, the wanderer, etc), it could be symbolic of the child expelling mother's milk, cutting his ties with his source. To me, as the last song of the album, it is a send off to the listener to reject what you've been taught or conditioned to, and with Prometheus, Odin, Lucifer, go forth from the experience of the album and seek knowledge on your own.

That's awesome! I also see the song as a tribute to Satan. It's my favorite Behemoth song, especially because I'm a Theistic Satanist.

Fuck yeah I've been waiting for you to review this one, but Nergal just posted on Insta that he is in the studio with Grupa13 right now filming new videos, for something brand new. If you watch all the vids from The Satanist, they do come together to tell a story and are all very similar thematically, fitting as it is a theme album. I think my personal favorite is Prometheus in chains, punished for bringing the Light of Knowledge to mankind. Very imagery heavy, this one, where his eye is missing, its his left eye, the Latin for which is Oculus Sinister, as it was long believed that everything on the left (left eye, left handed, devil sits on the left shoulder to whisper in the left ear) was evil.

And as an aside, the song, the pain, for me, is representative of a being who is kicked out of his home, driven from his family, never to see the face of his Father again.. The timeless anguish of a Divine being who can never again know the touch of the Divine and, though He may reign in his own kingdom, it is a bittersweet victory. Raw primal emotion, and in then end, as humans, I think a lot of us strive for something similar, and I really think a message like this really resonates with me. Okay, enough ranting, that's MY personal take on this... Horns and Hails \m/

There's crossover between the two mythological archetypes... Satanism demands study, never worship. There are lots of occult books, but I'd start with the Church of Satan' canonically approved books, then Michael A Aquino and Don Webb from the Temple of Set...but start with The Satanic Bible by LaVey, The Satanic Scriptures by Gilmore...these will greatly expand one's knowledge and foundation of all modern above-ground Satanic Organizations I.e. The Temple of Set, The Satanic Temple...after reading those two I'd definitely read The Lords of the Left-Hand Path by Flowers. It is a fantastic history and deep dive into the metaphysical and philosophical evolution from ancient hermetic gnosticism to modern day Satanism and it's splinters. After reading those three I'd read Michael A. Aquino's The Diabolicon, and then his 50th Anniversary Revision of The Satanic Bible (which actually starts with The Diabolicon...) and after learning who he was and how he fits with LaVey and the Church of Satan and then his founding the Temple of Set, you'll understand one's use of all sorts of disperse cultural and spiritual archetypes and imagery displayed and conveyed both covertly and overtly so as to elicit the Satanic practioner's desires from the future's grasp.

Sadly, "The Satanist" never grew on me. I really wanted to like it, I listened to it many times, but the world Nergal lives in on this album never clicked with me. You may hate to hear this, but for me personally the album sounds pathetic, sentimental, overblown and self-pitying. I really miss their powerfull death metal sound!
