This two part podcast recounts the life and career of actor/Playwright Laurence Luckinbill (“Boys in the Band,” Star Trek V: the Final Frontier). Nearing 90 and still going strong, Larry was asked nightly by his daughter Kate to “tell me another story, Daddy.” And finally, he decided it was time to put many of those life stories down in an autobiography. Written like a play for a script, Luckinbill’s account is raw and honest. He discloses stories and facts that many would not have the guts to admit…but his mission is to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Married for 45 years to Lucie Arnaz (the daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz), Larry was obsessed with acting, of making it as a success…and he never gave up.
This is actually more than a life account. There are many life lessons that certainly other actors and indeed everyone will want to learn. Larry talks about the meaning of: “Art is Long, But Life is short;” and “Acting is pretending….you are just a conduit for the role…the better you do it, the more anonymous you should become.”
It’s a fascinating and gripping autobiography from an actor who decided he would….set out his record of truth.
