@@gcn Victoria: Grampians, catch up with GP Lama in Ballarat, maybe do the Peaks Challenge if you're here at the right time, NSW has some great climbs down near the Vic border too, as well as awesome rides around Sydney Harbour. In my home state of Queensland, there's riding from the Gold Coast and hinterland (Robbie's Grand Fondo is great), to a ton of great rides around Brisbane from Mt. Glorious to Mt Coot-tha and out to the bay, and further north to Noosa and surrounds. Could even go (much) further north to Port Douglas for some cycling by the reef and canefields! (Sorry first reply had a link and got smooshed).

@@gcn The Great Ocean Road, along the bottom of Victoria is a definite must do, although, at approx 245 km it's better suited to a bikepacking adventure than a day ride. Wilson's Promontory (the southern most place in mainland Australia), the Glasshouse mountains. in Queensland, the northern tablelands area of New South Wales (I'm biased as that's my part of the world, but it does have a lot of national parks as well as a fossicking area which has been known to have gold and sapphires found there). The Barossa Valley in South Australia and the Hunter Valley in New South wales are our main wine producing areas and a lot of the wineries have tours for visitors. Even Mount Kosciuszko (Australia's highest mountain) although you might need to bring mountain bikes for that one. But if I'm honest, each state has something that would be a great place to visit

Cleland was closed during my visit because of the heat, but did get to ride up the famous Norton Summit climb and Mt. Lofty at 6 AM with a great crowd -- the ride-a-stage Challenge Ride was heat-cancelled that morning but everyone was still itching to bike. Instead I got to tour the local chocolate factory in that heat... who had sent the production crew home early that day because the Easter bunnies were softening and couldn't be wrapped. And also saw the Australia Day cricket match between Australia and England, where England batted first and suffered five wickets on only eight runs before anyone started to seriously bat [sorry, GCN]. Nothing quite like having a cannon do a 21-gun salute just outside the stadium, one blast at a time -- louder than hell and it didn't disturb anyone playing!
