Playing this for the prelude at my father's funeral tomorrow in New Mexico, thank you Philippe Sly. You have such a beautiful voice. My father was 88 at his death, a great man of God, kind to all, founded a homeless mission in my hometown, went to the Federal Prison every week to do a Bible Study/mentoring with the prisoners for SIXTEEN years. His life was his testimony. I BELIEVE he will be raised incorruptible. Thank you again.

This : "Behold, I tell you a mystery" is breathtaking ! Nobody can be compared to Philippe Sly in the Messiah ! For those who may never get a chance to hear this man live, I am sorry. I have listened to many world renowned professionals in masterclasses and live with amazing voices but Philippe is one in a trillion. The density of his sound is so great and powerful that it is mind blowing. More important than that, however, he has the most beautiful tone of any singer I have ever heard and may ever hear. When I first heard him (I had the pleasure to sing in choir for the Messiah that he was a soloist for) I finally understood what people meant by having an "angel-like" voice. Truly, one of the most gifted AND skilled singers I have ever heard. Hope some day I will hear him again.

Having lived a quarter century in New York City, let me just re-state the obvious: this is such a quintessential NYC performance, with such reserve and yet such bravado, to defy any expectation. Trinity Church, by Royal Charter of 1699 by Queen Anne, in the city of New York. You see how there are no extraneous baubles on the walls, no extraneous embellishments. There is only the Word and the Music. Surely this is how Haendel wanted his Messiah performed! Phillipe Sly is just magnificent and brings new and unexpected qualities and interpretations to this moving aria and song. Thank you so much, Mr. Sly and Trinity Church! You can change with it, or drop to the side like a stone. -- Trinity Wall Street is the perfect setting for such an incantation of this celestial piece of music. All the sin of the world heaped up upon it, all the greedy and avariciousness of it, in one place, and--at the same time: the wish to repent and change and make things anew. No one can argue this. Only the music can carry us forward. I listen to this performance at the darkest moments of my life and it carries me forward. THANK YOU MR. SLAY AND TRINITY WALL STREET!!!

Carolyn Clark they will never die. When the sun swallows the Earth, Bach and Handel will still be playing.

I've heard some good voices, but this guy is amazing. His voice is strong, rich, but it's not harsh. There's a smoothness to his singing. I'm not a musician, but I know what I like. This guy is good.

One of these days, the Trumpet will sound, and we will be changed! Maranatha! It is in black and white, clear in the Bible, that we the Church, will be caught up (rapturo, rapture) before the 7 years of Jacob's trouble, the great tribulation. Handel knew it. Wonderfully sung.
