I really appreciate how you mix your videos so that neither your voice nor the synth overpowers the other, and we can even hear you easily when you’re talking over the instrument. So many videos are borderline unwatchable because I can’t even hear the synth underneath the person eating the mic, or vise verse, or I have to constantly adjust the volume back and forth. Thank you and great videos!

In recent times I have again become interested in setting up my old gear (Korg WS ex, Korg poly6, Ensoniq ASR10, Korg MS 2000r, and LOL... EC10 tape Echo) with Ableton and doing some nice chill stuff. I have been looking for something else to add and i think that the DM 12 could be it. What's really surprised me is that Behringer has made this seemingly epic synth! I have asked fellow musos here in Oz what they think when i say the word "Behringer" - they all reply with "cheap", "noisy", "entry level" and things like that. But, from what I can gather it's pretty bloody good and has no real software glitches and sounds great. In fact, from the reviews it may look like the DM 12 will become one of the future classics. So just to confirm please, Once upon a synth - The DM 12 is mostly devoid of issues? The keyboard feels good? It looks fairly straight forward to use. Do you have any complaints? Many thanks for your awesome videos! Cheers, gaz

Our Family really enjoys watching these videos, and we have learned much about the deepmind (our first analog synth) by watching your tutorials. These videos are super helpful and we come back to them to broaden our learning. Could we ask for a big favor, though? Would it be too much to have you go through the software that is used for the computer/ipad/mac? We would be grateful - even if it takes a month or 5 - to just understand the full breadth of the capabilities of the accompanying software. Like: connecting consistently with wifi, clearing whole swaths of patch presets and arranging them to your liking( preparing for performance), blending ideas, more sound design and effect routing, using midi over wifi and using the deepmind to control other unique hardware. We believe you deserve much respect and are grateful for your time and effort. We have learned so much from this evolving musical exchange!! Thanks for all that you do - you are absolutely appreciated!

I notice you mentioned the REV2 on another DM demo post. I'd be interested to know what the (basic) difference is between those two synths, and especially what's the big differences between the sequencers/arpeggiators - if you know both machines. I'm wondering whether to move up from my old PolyEvolver to something like the REV2. However the DM12 looks very easy to use, in comparison to the Dave Smith synths. Thanks in advance.
@onceuponasynth
7 жыл бұрын
The Rev2 sequencer is a traditional note sequencer. The DM12 sequencer is just a mod sequencer (for modulating parameters). So if on-board note sequencing (playing melodies) is important to you then the Rev2 beats the DM12. The DM12 has much more (and better IMO) built-in effects compared to the Rev2. I think both are equally easy to use, they have the right number of knobs/faders to make synthesis easy. I would not sell the Polyevolver if I were you, it is becoming increasingly more rare and valuable. But if you're after more polyphony and a more traditional analog sound then I totally understand. I should also caveat all this by saying that I've only spent about 40 minutes browsing presets on the Rev2 whereas I spent many hours on the DM12 making patches. So take my opinion of the Rev2 with a grain of salt.
@cardboardmusic
7 жыл бұрын
Maybe a grain of salt, but a welcome response. I've asked this question on several places/sites and haven't had such a coherent answer. You're right about the traditional sequencing, it's indeed what I need. However, on the DM12 I like the idea of the sequencer/arpeggiator options up:down:random:etc. I also like the fact that it will (easily) take a pattern 'as played'. Something the PE does, but clumsily. On the DM I also like the ease of access visually to changing the signals. I won't get rid of the PE, however an upgrade is also due for the use/ease of midi functions, which are (I find) clumsy on the PE. Big thanks again.

Love your videos. This is the sound that really got me interested in learning synth. For somebody like me with virtually no piano or keyboard experience, would you recommend this synth? I'm really into Nils Frahm and his Juno tones as well as Tangerine Dream. I play guitar, but I've always been fascinated by synths. I'm just worried it'll be too challenging...
@onceuponasynth
7 жыл бұрын
If you can find a used juno 60 or 106 those might be simpler synths to start with. But the DM12 is not that complicated and it has a lot of knobs and sliders so it's easy to learn on. As long as you're willing to learn the basics you should be fine.

Thinking about buying a Deepmind 12. But hey, what happens after you spend 15 minutes tweaking your sound to perfection? Can you store it as a preset and get it back at the flick of a button?
@onceuponasynth
7 жыл бұрын
You can definitely save your own presets and recall them. "Flick of a button" depends on where you save them. You have to scroll through presets manually, there's no favorites or shortcuts. The best way to do it would be to save your presets in Bank A in the first few slots that way you can quickly access them.
@jacquesmertens3369

Thanks for the info. I think this synth is not for me. Too many knobs, sliders etc. They don't look like they're going to last very long, the rotary knob in particular. It's usually the first thing that breaks down. I would prefer to do all the tweaking on a pc and then just have a numeric keypad on the synth which allows me to choose a preset. Call me old fashioned.
