Dan keeps calling it "step down" circuitry, but it's actually DIVIDE down circuitry that creates the sound and unlimited polyphony. There's a single high frequency oscillator in it, and each of the notes is derived by dividing that oscillator by a given value. So unlimited polyphony - from a single oscillator. Pretty cool.
@erlannderrantem6972
Жыл бұрын
I‘m no expert on the Solina, but in Organs you have 12 High frequency oscillators (one for each key and their octaves) and and a flip flop (or bistable multivibrator) for each octave and i think it’s the same thing here. So, i don‘t think it‘s just one oscillator.
@ScottsSynthStuff
Жыл бұрын
@@erlannderrantem6972 The original Solina had one high frequency oscillator, then 12 divisor circuits to generate the 12 semitones, then divisors for each octave for each of those tones. That way you didn't have to keep 12 separate oscillators in tune, they would always be in tune because there is only one master oscillator.

should this also mean that the waveforms are in "sync".. guess if you sample one of these, and the sample triggers at same time, but waveforms play at the same time, they get out of "sync".. not sure how I could explain what I mean.
@JohnLRice
Жыл бұрын
@@AndrewTSq I'm not sure exactly what you are asking but I'm "pretty sure" that all of the tones across the keyboard are always "on", meaning the master VCO is on and feeding the 12 semi tone dividers and those are feeding the octave dividers and then when keys are played filters and VCA are opened and closed with envelopes. All the tones should be consistently in phase with each other . . .at least relatively so as I don't know if the dividers cause a bit of delay or not. I haven't researched it recently but I may have read that there could be some LFOs modulating the divider circuits to produce out of phase chorusing?

The 2600 is $500 right now and is SUPER feature rich and at $261 the Model D is killer. Then I'll tell you if it's an accurate reproduction. Nobody ever used the horn section. I guess because it's a Euro company, but Jean Michelle Jarre gets all the love for using the Solina with a Small Stone like thats the quintessential sound, but this synth shined in a million records by providing a beautiful pad that cut through anything.

We´re too spoiled, these times, I guess... I consider getting external access to modulation and phaser seems already worth the price of that instrument! Btw.
