TIL about "wumao," thanks to one of the comments below. Ever heard of them? Me neither. Apparently, it's a real thing: a "50 Cent Army" of Chinese internet commenters, numbering in the hundreds of thousands, paid by the authorities of the People's Republic of China to spread propaganda. And, after reading the alleged marching orders of the wumao, some comments now make sense. (I'll try to stop deleting them, for elucidation.) From Wikipedia: ------------------------------------------------------------------- According to an article published by Xiao Qiang on his website China Digital Times, a leaked propaganda directive, sent to 50 Cent Party internet commenters, states: (1) To the extent possible make America the target of criticism. Play down the existence of Taiwan. (2) Do not directly confront [the idea of] democracy; rather, frame the argument in terms of "what kind of system can truly implement democracy.” (3) To the extent possible, choose various examples in Western countries of violence and unreasonable circumstances to explain how democracy is not well-suited to capitalism. (4) Use America's and other countries' interference in international affairs to explain how Western democracy is actually an invasion of other countries and [how the West] is forcibly pushing [on other countries] Western values. (5) Use the bloody and tear-stained history of a [once] weak people [i.e., China] to stir up pro-Party and patriotic emotions. (6) Increase the exposure that positive developments inside China receive; further accommodate the work of maintaining [social] stability.

Wikipedia.....oh well 100% facts then!!! The whole "wumao" thing, while true, is of course wildly exaggerated, it's a way for the China haters to ignore the varying opinions of Chinese citizens........anything contradicting their "Chinaman bad" narrative, can be attributed them being paid operatives of the Chinese government. Because, of course, Chinese people can't possibly have opinions of their own.....they are all brainwashed or are operatives of the government. But go see the street interviews of the "Asian Boss(from Korea)" chanel, and you will see how well informed the average middle class Chinese people are about the West.

Oh, about original Chinese merchandise or any kind of wares you had purchased in Beijing, almost everything, from high-quality silk, to edible delicacies like Chinese brine, snacks, nuts, pastries, condiments etc., even home goods, can be found at Chinatown Blok 70 Kinezi in Belgrade (NBG municipality) 😊 So, one needn't necessarily go all the way to China for daily groceries 😋😂

Welcome to China. The latest news: China is trialling visa-free travel for citizens from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia for a year, its foreign ministry said. From December to 30 November 2024, ordinary passport holders from these countries can do business or travel in China without a visa for up to 15 days.

Is the pollution truly bad now? I was last there with a group from the UK in 2019 and it was quite clear. I remember sunny blue skies at the Summer Palace and the Great Wall. Want to take advantage of this 144 hour layover enroute to Australia but will give it a miss if the air is bad. My lungs cannot handle it as I age. Looking forward to your advice. Thanks.

@anglohan5428 The practice of speaking of the actions of a few conscienceless rogue merchants as if they were all is an evil trick of dirty two-faced people like you. America has a lot of shooters, homeless people, and drug dealers. So are all Americans dangerous? Even if there are a lot of thieves in the UK, do all Britons have bad hand habits? Do Westerners who eat genetically modified foods, sausages made with chunks of chemicals, and food fried in dirty oil recycled thousands of times from McDonald's or KFC live longer than Chinese people??

😂😂the driver thing is😂😂it's not the norm, it's small probability severe events that can happen in any country which is cruel and intolerable everywhere. I don't think rare villains can represent a country anywhere. Plus, compensation on traffic accidents are measured by laws and if it is really like what u heard, it would be murder on purpose and the driver would likely to get death sentence in the end. No normal ppl would do that. China is a law-governing society, no need to worry those exaggerating rumors honestly. After all, indulging such outrageous crimes has no good for any country 🤷♀️
