Dr. Seth, I am sorry, but I think the brain knows more than we would believe it to know. Your lecture is very interesting.

From my perspective, human consciousness is outside the human person not inside, and it's in the form of field like all other fields like quantum fields or electromagnetic field. Human brain is a highly organized system that finds a way to steadily interact with this conscious field and lights up the human person. Any system or structure that becomes complex enough will also interact with this conscious field (hence conscious being). This why we should be careful the way we propagate our electric technology.

These hallucinations mechanism of the brain approach of making sense of the world is actually remarkable, but with what mechanism are we able to sit down and reason out this process. Like sitting down listening to people like Anil Seth explain how the brain perceives the world around it should take a different process from that of hallucination mechanism. So this other attribute where does it come from, is it still another properties of the brain and mind or what.

We are still in the material age. Consciousness being created by the physical brain is the equivalent of the electricity that emits light being created by the lamp.

of course, how else have we been evolving. we get caught up in local time, but another million years of this and we wont even remember a cave. well definitely have new factors telling us how hopeless our efforts are hehe, and thank god for that.

Being You: A Science of Consciousness Anil Seth Anil Seth's radical new theory of consciousness challenges our understanding of perception and reality, doing for brain science what Dawkins did for evolutionary biology. Consciousness is the great unsolved mystery in our scientific understanding of the brain. Somewhere, somehow, inscribed in the brain is everything that makes you you. But how do we grasp what happens in the brain to turn mere electrical impulses into the vast range of perceptions, thoughts and emotions we feel from moment to moment? Anil Seth, one of Britain's leading neuroscientists, charts the developments in our understanding of consciousness, revealing radical interdisciplinary breakthroughs that must transform the way we think about the self. Drawing on his original research and collaborations with cognitive scientists, neuroscientists, psychiatrists, brain imagers, virtual reality wizards, mathematicians and philosophers, he puts forward an exhilarating new theory about how we experience the world that should encourage us to view ourselves as less apart from and more a part of the rest of nature. Seth's revolutionary framework for consciousness will turn what you thought you knew about yourself on its head.

So interesting. I wish I could ask Anil Seth questions, for example: icw the checkerboard, when you (I) look through your (my) eyelashes, you see that the two squares are the same colour. I always thought that we see the colour as different because of the effect of the white colour around the square, and vice versa with the other square. This effect is gone when you look through your eyelashes (the squares look the same). I paint, and this is what fine-painters do when observing reality to paint it. The fact that we see the square as darker does not have anything to do with the thought that it is in shadow, so it is not an anticipatory effect of the brain. Or do you mean that the brain (eye-mechanism) is hard-wired for this effect simply because of the darker colour around the white square and vice versa? I still do not see a direct connection with the "shadow"-thought, which I think is what you are putting your emphasis on. ??

The Dreamachine sounds like an incredible experience and wondered if there was an intention to offer it again or to offer it in a commercial experiential setting.
