Best dogs ever. Very smart and affectionate. Strong discipline, not to rough their feelings get hurt easily. They tend to prefer one person. Coat maintenance is a lot of work. Easy if you start young.

My first, rescue from pound, was in there for 6 months, adopted by someone else for a total of 24 hours and brought back to pound. I adopted her.i have her now for 1 year, she's great. Gets along with my 3 other dogs and my siamese cat. Haven't had any problems.

My Belgian is 12 years old. He's the sweetest, best boy that I could've hoped for. He's a huge cuddle monster and gets along with all of the other pets (dogs and cats alike, never a single issue). He is protective, though... He does a full patrol around our yard every time he goes outside and it is a majestic thing to behold. He can also be protective of me, especially if there are strangers in the house. He loves the entire family but he is very much my dog and from my experience, I definitely agree that they get more attached to one person but he also got really attached to one of my other dogs... We lost her in September of last year, she was nearly 16 years old, and my Belgian was was by her side until the very end. We joked that he was her nurse because he'd clean her off from head to tail every night and check her over like a nurse. She loved every second of it. He still looks for her and cries when he can't find her. I dread the day that I lose him. It'll leave a hole in my heart twice the size of him.

I repeat: It's safe to say that ALL THE BEST DOGS COME FROM BELGIUM. I've just seen and admired a Belgium Torvuren a few minutes ago in another video, and now this adorable one😍??? And I thought Belgium Malinois was my favorite dog ever🤣

My Belgian dogs aren’t dogs, they are flying, dinosaur, kangaroo Einsteins on red bull. 😂😂 Best dogs I ever had but wouldn’t recommend them to everyone, only a few people can handle those Maligators. I think that the groendael and Tervuren are more suitable for everyone but the Malinois surely isn’t. They are now listed as the most intelligent dogs on earth and it’s possible that the other Belgian breeds are just as intelligent.

My rescue groenendael mix is a people-person & a sweetheart and people will still cross the street well before we get close 😅 to be fair, getting spayed around 4 months can sometimes make females grow bigger & more muscular than unspayed ladies, and she's pretty wolfy to begin with-- even big guys get nervous around her. perfect walking breed for petite gals like me :]

I had a wonderful Belgian mix. She was totally OK with apartment life, although we went on lots of walks and could visit a dog park.} I trained her to jump through a hula hoop to earn her dinner. (You can search for "kira jumps hoop" to find a low-res video.) Kira had a really high prey drive, and barked furiously at cats and squirrels, and sniffed and dug after rodents. She was a blood donor who literally jumped up on to the donation table. Well behaved in shops; she tended to herd male visitors to my home. She was just starting to get a little arthritis when she contracted lymphoma at age 13.

Black German sheps tend to be short haired with little undercoat! The snouts on groenendaels have more of a curved slope, their faces tend to be a bit narrow & long, and they definitely feel very different muscle/skeleton-wise compared to german shepherds. Tempermant is wildly different as well in my experience, groen's are pretty sensitive and get moody if you yell.

@@alia4629 My mix is a female who is great with women and kids! We got her from a shelter at around 4 months with regular vet checkups for a medical condition though, early socialization is veeery important if you want them to be friendly and tolerant of kid antics 🐕 Early socialization included: - Touching & holding her paws on the drive home to get her used to it right away - Being a little silly and smooshing/kissing her face (gently!) a lot to prepare her for our baby cousins lmao - Getting her used to being picked up (only for emergencies, can hurt some dogs especially after puppyhood) - Taking her to people gatherings, starting off small at home and working our way up to more crowded & noisy places - Unofficial "service animal" desensitization: getting her used to walking around the Home Depot garden center with permission, and any other low traffic store that will allow it (apparently I'm the first person to ask permission at a lot of big box stores LOL), as well as teaching her to ignore other dogs. High prey drive means it takes more work to get her used to cats though! And finally: Training, training, training! "How to Be Your Dog's Best Friend" is a surprisingly good resource, written by the monks of Crete who breed their own working line shepherds; it goes over different training methods but emphasizes positive reinforcement which is ESPECIALLY important for Belgians!! They're sensitive compared to german sheps so no yelling and *definitely* no "big boy alpha man" dominance methods unless you want a reactive and angry animal; that goes for any dog really. Since they're loyal and protective of their family, they usually warm up quickly to any family friends/partners, just always make sure to introduce them to kids slowly AFTER making sure the kids know to never pull their fur, tackle them, or attempt to climb them. A stressed dog won't nip as long as it's well trained, it'll just up and leave the whole situation. Last tip: During the teething phase, pretend your skin is as fragile as a baby's and yelp LOUD like a puppy would if teeth make contact with skin. Dogs don't speak with words, they speak in body language and growls/barks/whines; learn *their* language first if you want to train them well! 🐶
