My beloved partner passed away at age 39 in an accident at home a mere four days after seeing this concert with me. We were in one of the front center rows so we're visible in some of the shots. It's the last video recording I have of him. I had looked forward to this concert for many months, and as an amateur violinist, Hilary is one of my idols. So for more reasons than one I don't think I'll ever forget this concert. Thank you Bozar, for putting this on KZitem and letting me re-experience this beautiful memory.

Recently, I saw Hilary perform at Carnegie Hall. Hilary never disappoints. As I looked up at the stage, there was Hilary coming back for an encore rounding the last group pf musicians. Her momentum was so great that her hair flipped upward and was momentarily parallel to the floor. This is a snapshot in my brain and is is a memory I shall never forget. The extraordinary amount of energy she supplies for each of her performances, even on encores, is only one of the reasons that she will be remembered as one of the greatest violin virtuosos of all time.

This performance was so perfect that KZitem thought it was Hahn's Schoenberg/Sibelius CD recording.

Was there that night and I felt fortunate for having experienced this intensely beautiful hour in my life. Before I knew, it was over. I have never, ever, been to a concert where you could hear a fly land and not a single person coughed, either my brain was so focused I must have missed it. This recording is great, but being there was simply at another level. I will never forget it, thank you Hilary and the Belgian National Orchestra!

There is Dvorak/Rostropovitch and from now on there is Sibelius/Hahn! Unforgettable memory to be live in this concert hall and watching this great musician enjoying to play music. Congratulations to the NOB and Mikko Franck.

Years ago I read reviews hyping Hilary Hahn and thought that she might just be the beneficiary of the PR folks promoting "young artists." Later I was in Dublin, Ireland to hear their National Symphony play Bruckner. But before those concerts, the San Francisco Symphony was on tour there, featuring Hilary Hahn. She made her violin sing! She isn't faking it and the critics are right! And I enjoyed the Richard Strauss at this concert. Great program, great soloist. Fine orchestra. Thanks for streaming!

I saw Hilary Hahn perform Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in Atlanta on this past December 3. She made my heart flutter. Five days later I underwent an unexpected quadruple bypass surgery. Related?

This was a truly incredible experience. It somehow marked the end of the lockdown and Hilary Hahn definitely made the most of it. Great atmosphere and an extraordinary performance.

Ayer estuve escuchando a una joven Hillary con Beethoven op.61. Luego este mismo grandioso Sibelius con Hillary-Frank y la Orchestre de Paris....y otro milagro, otra vez esa pareja musical con la Belgian National Orchestre. Sencillamente grandiosos, milagrosos. Sibelius con Hillary es impecable!!! Gracias, merci!!

Why does that viola solo at 5:35 always sound sharp to the soloist? Among dozens of recordings and live performances, I have actually never heard that viola solo played in tune - it always sounds sharp.

Maybe so the orchestra don't have to keep adjusting the height of their music stands when he moves position. When I have seen him previously, Mikko often conducts sitting down, on a chair on the podium, and then stands up for portions of pieces.
@harryarmitage6056

Maybe that theory doesn't hold water - he's moved his chair off the podium at the end of the first movement of the violin concerto.

Often she slows down the playing time and the sound becomes very weak, without obtaining any expressive effect! Very boring performance👎🏽

You're entitled to your opinion about Hahn's performance, but the "weakness" you hear is probably intentional. Actually, you're probably just describing a characteristic of this piece, particularly the first and second movements. The music is often supposed to slow down and soften significantly. Hahn is always perfectly deliberate in her execution of phrasing, and this is how she chooses to express herself.

maybe you’ll find some of her other performances on this piece more interesting. she plays it differently every time, she’s particularly aggressive in the red dress one
