I’m a taxi driver in Liverpool and had the pleasure of Rik being a passenger in my cab . Anyway I was on the cb radio to my mate billy and told him I had rik mayall in my cab . Billy didn’t believe me so asked me to ask rik to shout “Vivienne “ down the radio mic 🎤. Rik duly obliged in his best young ones accent . Myself rik and billy were pissing ourselves laughing what a good sport he was . Rip rik 👍

I spent three months on a Greyhound bus with Rik. (We were touring the US in a UK production of The Comedy of Errors.) First off, as he says here, and Stephen Fry has said, he was incredibly beautiful. An Adonis. Which comedians are not expected to be. And when he was crackingly funny, which he constantly was, it was as unexpectedly, anarchically shocking as his gesture here, when he says 'Smack him!' If we are 'a product of what has gone before', I flatter myself that he is in me, still. (I'd not seen him for six months, when in London, I walked into a pub in Belsize Park, and he was at the bar. He'd barely clocked me, before he yelled "I thought I told you to wait in the car!" His wit was that quick). "Self, self, self, it's all about me!" How we need that satire today! How we are not permitted the violence of his essential satire today! "Dead for five days?" Nope. Alive, beloved, beautiful Rik, for as long as I am alive, at least.
