St Mary's Church, Wolborough (Newton Abbot) has a fine peal of eight cast in 1926 by John Taylor and Co. They produce and growly, howly and rewarding sound to the ringers and people walking outside the church. I think they are quite similar to Leamington Spa, but not for the tower sway! They are also known as one of the finest eights in their weight category too. However, there have been debates on whether Kingsteignton are better. I personally think that Wolborough are more punchy and roar more, however Kingsteignton are more zingier and richer to the ear.
The bells go quite nicely, but are a tad difficult to handle due to the fat sallies, eliminating grip and therefore harder to ring well. But the challenge is worth it as you will hear in this video. In this clip you will hear Sixty on Thirds rung on the back six with closed handstroke leads. Hope you enjoy the video!
