A next-generation version of the world's first supersonic aircraft, the Bell X-1B flew from 1954 until 1958. During this period the aircraft reached speeds in excess of Mach 2 and climbed as high as 65,000 feet in altitude. This footage shows preflight preparation and fueling, loading into the launch aircraft, climb and launch, and landing of a typical flight campaign, all assembled into a mythical "composite mission." (Please note that the narration ends roughly a quarter of the way into the video.)
