Years ago, one of my coworkers told everyone she had cancer. She was never specific, just “Oh, I have cancer.” She would leave mid-day and show up late often, claiming to be going to treatments. People felt bad for her situation, so they’d go out of their way to make things easier for her at work by taking on some of her duties on top of their own. She eventually admitted to lying about having cancer and was fired. IMO, that’s a very disgusting thing to lie about it. Anyone who lies about it deserves to get it. 🤢

(I belive she was lying, she evoked pregnancy to gain MORE sympathy) and Tara was like- Nope. Not having it.
@D_skeptic
3 жыл бұрын
Agreed, Tara handled that extremely well. But I think Belle knows exactly what the truth is… she just doesn’t care. She will never ever admit she lied because it requires admitting you are a predatory scumbag, pathological liar, & at minimum, possess many of the same traits as sociopaths. Her ego just wont allow that kind of self-deprecating honesty. All of that said, if someone was so foolish that they believed eating your fruits & veggies could cure what would have been Stage 4 cancer (if she had not made the whole thing up)…? I just find it real hard to have much sympathy for them. Those people would have found someone else’s bullshit to buy hook, line, & sinker if they hadn’t encountered Belle. They’d be looking for cancer-curing spells, herbal remedies, some self-reported reiki master with magic hands, or some other such nonsense. If you require no proof or even a shred of convincing evidence in the face of extraordinary claims, someone will always be there to tell you a fairytale and take your money. And frankly, this sounds a bit like natural selection at work… 🤷🏻♀️

Moved onto my property after having "long haul COVID", leaving trash everywhere, going on two vacations without paying a dime in rent, and using her donation money from GoFundMe. When she found out I reported her actions to her GoFundMe sponsor, she filed a false police report and restraining order. Filled with lies, accessing her computer and stealing mail, stealing money, threatening her with a knife and arson. On the police report she claims she can't remember anything, and she showed up to the restraining order hearing in a wheelchair. I’m interested in your analysis of her & I wonder if she help herself?? I’d say yes she does not having empathy (is that the right word?) for her victims. Yet if she’s just looking to scam people, does she just switch that off??!! I noticed she blames everyone else to save her own skin. She’s either unable or chooses not to accept blame. I’m trying to look at from a behavioural point of view, which was an area I worked in. Yet I think of the harm she’s caused people, my brother had cancer & she’s the sort of person that would’ve listened to her . Especially as he lived in Sydney. Thank you for taking time to thoroughly analyze this case, Dr. Grande. Gibson is a special kind of deceptive, one that reaches various levels. She reminds me of the likes of “G.I. Joe” Gliniewicz, the officer who lead a double life, went out as a “hero”, mislead an entire community into making them believe he was murdered by unknown assailants; and Tania Head, the woman who claimed to have survived the 9/11 twin tower attacks, built a support group and fed off survivors' and families of victims' pain and trauma. The damage and distrust caused by them has been irreparable. It’d be great if you could look into these two someday. Thanks again, I've been enjoying your scientifically informed, insider look at mental health topics (and beyond) for a few years now. Keep up the great work.

This reminds me of my brother. He faked illness to get attention when we were younger and he behaved badly in adulthood. He stood on the street and waved at the police while yelling at them to arrest him. He once flashed two police officers to get their attention. I am handicapped and I can't imagine why anyone would want to get attention. I am like a bat, I stay in my cave. What's worse my brother told me and my mom he was a sociopath. I do believe he is right. He has been missing with his two sons since 2019 after he quit communicating with the family. I was the last person he spoke too. I found out he lied to me and he attacked our family accusing everyone of abusing him. I believe he used that to get attention from his ex girlfriend. I didn't know she had moved with him and was living with my brother. My brother used me and the family. After mom passed away from cancer he started running away from his problems. My family is waiting for him to contact me because he usually talks to me when he needs help. He told me I am the only person that has never lied or abused him and I am an innocent being. I am hoping he's okay and my nephew's are well. I miss them very much. 😞

@lt19611 Oh really? 😑 What type/stage of cancer were you diagnosed with? What, exactly, is the active ingredient in this “regimen” that combats the exact type of cancer you claim to have had? Is it magically effective for all cancers? Are you an oncologist? A scientist? Edit: Also, blow me.

@lt19611 "Enzymes". Oh yes, those unnamed enzymes! Love those super effective, nameless EnZyMeS. Doesn't matter which ones. Is it amylase? Maltase? Doesn't fuckin matter, just pump me full of EnZyMeS! Every enzyme that your body produces, even if it's harmful-- is a cure all! Of course! What great advice! :) /s (to people who are actually suffering from cancer or any other illness: I know it's tempting and it seems like there's no other options, but please don't fall for snake oil cure-alls. *there is no such thing as a cure-all*.)

Hey doc, i think this recommendation might be a little outside What you normally do, but it'd be nice if you did an analysis of the popular actor Sushant Singh Rajput's alleged suicide. He was rather vocal about topics like happiness, hollowness of fame and money, true meaning etc. His death became a huge controversy in the industry, with a lot of taking sides, conspiracy theories, pointing fingers, but one thing i didn't see was an unbiased analysis. Hope you see this.

Okay can I just say this really quick. I’m glad I’m not the only one who is automatically skeptical whenever someone says “I died on the table” or “I died for 3 minutes” I always want to say No, no you didn’t. Death is going away and never coming back. If you came back, you didn’t “die”. Having cardiac arrest is already dramatic enough, just say that. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
