Thurnby is a village just to the East of Leicester's city boundaries. The church dates from Norman times and is noted for its impressive central tower and supporting pillars dating from 1143, 14th century gargoyles that are still in use, a highly decorated 19th century chancel and 20th century Arts & Crafts stained glass.
Access to the ringing room is via a spiral staircase, which opens on to the roof, with another entrance from there to the ringing room. There are 8 bells. The tenor weighs 12-3-12 cwt. More details about the bells can be found here: dove.cccbr.org...
