I have played both renaissance lute and oud over the years, and can truly appreciate the beauty and simplicity in this performance and instrument. Bravo!

Hi! Your work is fantastic, I really enjoy it even if the fretless lute scares me 😂 👏❤ I'm a beginner lute player - i've got an 8 course ren lute for it's versatility but im getting more and more interested in the earlier lutes, especially in the more mediterran sounding repertoire. Do you know any suitable pieces that can be played fingerstyle without quill on my 8 course to get a taste of it? Many thanks, Michael

I think this music genre should be always perfermed in churches,cathedrals and similar places,not only because of Natural acustic effect, but also for the beauty of the "theatre"

Is this technically oud? Or is it a transition from oud to fretted lute? I'm fascinated by this instrument.
@saramariafantini8715

It's a lute based on 14th-century iconography (Andrea da Zevio); the lute was in fact fretless until the first half of 15th century. Thanks for listening! :)

It's actually a 14th-century lute, descendant of the aoud which arrived in Europe through the Arab rule over Spain

This really has a middle eastern feel to it. How much of this repertoire / technique was borrow from Oud music?
@saramariafantini8715

Thanks for asking! The court of Alfonso X "El Sabio", where the cantigas de Santa Maria were composed, was in fact an authentic melting pot of cultures, and many moorish musicians (with their oud-like instruments) are depicted in the illuminations of the manuscripts which transmit the repertoire. The lute itself, at that time, was still very close to the oud. That's why I like to adopt, for this repertoire, some ornaments that are commonly played on the oud.
