In 1968 I head Ben E. King sing this song at a small club on the coast of SC. King had a small band of 3 or 4 guys and I can still remember the single violin. The venue was not air conditioned. I was 18. The girl I was with was 17. 52 years later we are still a couple. And I still love the song.

I bartended in a karaoke bar for 7 years, and my father would always come visit me at work, but always refused to sing. He was in his early 60s and it was a playful point of pride for him that he had never been dragged into taking part. One particularly bad night, after I had gone through the loss of my child, he took me to a local karaoke bar and we just drank all night and forgot our worries. Eventually, he got drunk enough he went up to sing and this was the song he chose. In all honesty, It was probably the worst singing I've ever heard, and still somehow the most beautiful at the same time. I know he did it just to put a smile on my face during a difficult time, and I don't think he ever truly knew just how much it really meant to me. He passed suddenly less than a year later, and I sang this at his funeral. This song is one of those rare things that makes me simultaneously cry from missing him while smiling at what was such a priceless moment. A true testament to how the little things can often mean the most

Im 36, my Dad used to play this in the bath when I was a baby and I would sing away. Sadly my relationship with my Dad broken down due his behaviour. I have since had my own son who now sings in the bathroom whilst I play this song, which makes me both happy and sad. Sad because it makes me think about my own Dad but happy because I'm confident that I won't make the mistakes he did in life with my son.

When my mom was a teenager she had horrible anxiety and couldn’t be apart form her mother. And one night they were driving around and her mother was having a rough day because of a situation with her boyfriend. And this song came on and my mom said to her mom “ you’re my best friend. I dedicate this song to you” my grandmother passed away this March. Now I dedicate this song to my mom.

I was adopted by my father who was African American I was a Caucasian boy. I was bullied all the time because my father and I looked so different but he would always tell me, we may look a little different on the outside but we are all the same it’s not what counts on The outside but what’s inside you as a person that’s where your real worth is .my father was an amazing man I worked hard In all aspects whether it would be school training martial arts self defence. This man was truly my real father no one could make me feel otherwise. Unfortunately 2 years ago he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer very low life expectancy he battled on as he does he did everything he could to fight the cancer but slowly he deteriorated and Then it was all of a sudden he was in his death bed. He passed and we played This song at his funerals which was one of his favourite as. Everyone I hear this song I hurt so much just all the emotion coming bag from Dad, but I also love It because it make m e feel so close to him once Again even though I know he’s not with us…

My wife stood by me when I had cancer. I must admit I fully expected to do it alone because every hard time before I had been on my own, married or not. I was surprised to say the least and eternally grateful. I was totally incapacitated after surgery for almost a month and the way insurance is 2 days in the hospital was too long. I NEEDED someone to stand by me. I suppose that is key in all this. I made it through all by myself, alone up to that point and when I needed the help it was there. It's amazing how things seem to all work out? I dare any of you to be that person for someone. Instead of asking "What will you do?" ask "What will we do?". Think about it...

I am 31 now, with a college degree, a house, and a wonderful girlfriend, the movie strikes a nerve because I had a friend just like River Phinoex in the movie, he was a rough kid, had 5 brothers, and he would always tell the others that I was going to go on to do big things and wouldnt let me do bad things, I went on to the military and while away he died..... I think back on him alot and can't watch the movie now. when my dad died He showed up out of no where, when my first long relationship broke apart he came with me to get my stuff and the dude got in my face and I was going to hit him but William stepped between us and said he's not worth a charge and getting in trouble with military and then without warning he turned and knocked the guy out. he always protected me and I wasn't there when he died because I was on deployment, I sit at his tombstone every year and drink a shot and listen to this song..... I will name my first son William....

Nah, it's simply because living people don't need flowers, you can share time and good moments with them so why give them flowers. With the dead ones you can't interact so all you can do is take care of their graves.

About 4 weeks ago my grandad took a turn for the worst and passed away. His funeral has not happened due to the current situations with coronavirus, but one of the songs that we are playing at his funeral is this one. when we lose somebody we just gotta carry on. And i sometimes laugh to myself and think, i bet grandad is up there having a glass of whiskey and is smiling down at us. As every day goes by i feel more comfortable to say how much i loved my grandfather but you don't realise how much you really love somebody until they go.
